Went with a couple friends to use their space for board game night. Had a good time employees were cool and they had dollar DP which came in clutch. Even bought a card game from their really good selection of board games. If you have not been for sure a place to check out. Cheers.

Richard and his staff have been a beautiful resource for the city of Waco for years. They are knowledgeable about all levels of games for all levels of gamers. They are passionate and informed about the state of organized play within all gaming genres.

Came in to this store while I was visiting Waco from DFW. Immediately was greeted by the super friendly and hilarious staff. I was perusing through their array of Magic the Gathering singles. I was not disappointed. They were more than happy to help me find cheap <$1 cards. Keef was always ready to answer my questions and just shoot the breeze. I can tell their commander scene is great and the best part is, the play side of the store is open late in Fridays. If you’re new to the area or just passing through this shop is definitely worth it.

Great selection and a good place to play with friends. This is one of the few game stores I have been to with a few options for younger kids available in store. It isn't the prettiest game store I've been in, but the staff is helpful and the selection is one of the best.

This store is the perfect example of why game stores are dying all across the country. Every time I walk into a game store I am ready to spend money. However, this store, like many other stores have a staff that could care less whether you are there or not. I walked in with my wife, and the sole employee never looked up from the video game he was playing. He never said, hello, never acknowledged our presence, nothing. We were looking for board games, and the selection is pretty poor. The games they do have are in the front window and most of the boxes have been bleached out by the sun. Many of the games were released several years ago, but still had new release pricing on them. If you are looking for a good board game, I recommend you look elsewhere.

Great place to bring your family to play board games or go to play with friends. The store owner Richard is very knowledgeable about pretty much every game in the store, and always has an answer to your question. I have asked him so many questions about games I’ve seen him playing in the front of the store and he was excited to tell me about them and get me started to play with him. They have a great stock of Magic cards, tabletop games. If they do not have the game or item you are looking for Richard is always willing to try his hardest to get it in stock for you. He has a great selection of miniatures and for Dnd, Pathfinder, and other role play games. He also sells his own hand painted miniatures but strongly encourages you to find a unique miniature from the store and paint it yourself. Richard says “one of the best parts of choosing a miniature is being able to paint it and make it your own unique character”. The other staff members are also very respectful and helpful in their own ways, whether you need to know about magic cards or you need help deciding on a board game to purchase or pray. Speaking of board games. Richard has his own collection of board games that he allows people to rent and play for only $3. The best part is you get to play as long as you want. I enjoy going in and seeing Richard, because he always has something new, and interesting to tell me. I recommend if you ever get the chance ask him about frost grave. Chances are he will let you borrow one of his teams or help you to create your own, sit down and teach you how to play. I believe this is the best game store in Waco and you won’t be disappointed when stopping by.

I visited the game closet today with my 6year old son who had been asking me to buy him some Pokémon cards. While in the store, I attempted to make small talk with a person I assume to be the owner. I asked if they were accepting pre-orders for the new Disney game being released later this month. He responded “no, but you can come buy it on the release date”. I followed up by asking when the release date is so that we could come buy it that day. He said he “didn’t know but thought it might be August 16th and that items show up a few days after HE pays for them”.Then it took a super weird turn. I asked which distributor they were getting the game from (some distributors are local and some are several states away, which presents risk of shipping delays). His response was “I’m not going to tell you that and I’m disturbed that you would ask this question”. I asked why it was concerning and he said “because it is none of your business”. I politely stated that I didn’t understand what was so strange about the question and left. My intention was just to make small talk while waiting for my son. Clearly, trying to make small talk was a mistake.I purchased Pokémon cards for my son at Walmart and will not be visiting the Game Closet again. This was a weird, rude experience and based on other google reviews of The Game Closet, it seems that being rude and unhelpful is a common theme at this store.

Great staff, wide selection of board games and rulebooks, decent variety of popular card games and miniature paints, okay selection of miniatures. I highly recommend you ask the staff questions, especially if there is a particular item you want. They can order it and have it on hold for you.

My wife and I went a couple of days ago. We tried a few other spots in Waco, but none had the selection that this place had, nor the atmosphere. What set it apart was the customer service. As soon as we walked in, we were welcomed. We told him we were looking for some new games and he took it from there. He asked us what our preferences were and then guided us through a handful of games that he thought we'd like. To be honest, he could have easily conned us because he was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic that we ended up getting two games instead of one. But the cool thing is that we absolutely love the ones that he suggested for us! The general atmosphere was great too. The staff knew many of the people coming and going, and there was a gameplay area where everyone seemed to be having a great time. Overall awesome experience. As a board game enthusiast, I think I finally found my go-to spot!

Love this place! Stayed in Waco area for about a few months and needed a LGS to frequent. Came in on a slow Tuesday afternoon and all the guys in the shop helped me modify a dragon precon deck. Super friendly and personable people. Plenty of tables and tons of DnD/Warhammer/MTG to go around. Will definitely recommend and come back in the future
