I was about four hours from home when I noticed my steering wheel starting to shake. After stopping at three different gas stations looking for an air pump, I realized I was in serious trouble. My valve stem had backed out and immediately released what little air pressure I had left in my left front tire.

I was in tears and honestly unsure what I was going to do or even where the nearest auto parts store was. I pulled out of Valero and, almost like a little answered prayer, looked up and saw Stavinoha Tire Shop.

I walked in, trying to hold back tears, and explained what was happening to the lady at the desk. Greg walked in, took one look, and simply said, “Show me what you’re seeing.”

He didn’t just tighten the valve stem and send me on my way. He replaced it, aired up my tire, and explained that the tire pressure warning on my dashboard might take a little while to clear.

When I asked, “How much do I owe you?” he simply said, “Don’t worry about it.”

I cannot adequately express how much that kindness meant to me in that moment. Being four hours from home, scared, and unsure of what to do, Greg took the time to help me without hesitation—and then refused payment.

People like Greg are a reminder that there is still so much kindness in the world. I will never forget how he helped me when I was having a really difficult moment.

“A service technician from my company broke down luckily at the Weimar, TX exit where he was pointed to Don's Repair Shop. He was promptly attended to and the problem diagnosed. The serpentine belt broke along with one of the pulleys and made a real mess. I was told what the problem was and what it would take to repair it properly. Once I approved of the repairs, a diligent search for the right parts was made. My vehicle had add on equipment that made this more than a routine belt repair.
Parts were quickly ordered and I was told that it would take more than a week. Understandable. But I needed to get my service tech back on the road. I was offered options which they readily had at hand. They knew when the bus to San Antonio was coming through or they had the number of the local Uber driver who was willing to assist. At every turn they were helpful and had answers for what was needed.
I've been stranded in situations like that before and the people that my fate was in did not offer much reassurance as to what the next steps might be to help me out of my situation. The team at Don's were helpful at every step. Thank you for that.”
