The Visual Art Institute (VAI) has a rich 45-year history of providing high-quality visual art education in Utah. Since 1978, it has nurtured creativity, encouraging individuals of all ages and skill levels to explore and develop their artistic talents. The school is known for its welcoming, supportive environment that emphasizes fundamentals, experimentation, and personal growth. Its programs include classes for children, high schoolers, adults, and professional artists, helping students build confidence, learn new techniques, and prepare for careers or personal fulfillment in art.
Students often praise the dedicated and passionate instructors, especially noting the caring nature and expertise of the Art Director, who personally invests time in each student. Many highlight how classes at VAI have significantly improved their skills, boosted their portfolios, and inspired lifelong passions. High school students have used VAI’s figure drawing classes to enhance their college applications and earn scholarships, while adults have rediscovered their love for art and gained new skills later in life.
VAI emphasizes a balance of careful study with creativity and play, fostering an inclusive community where students of all abilities can thrive. The school’s success stories include children discovering their voice, teens gaining recognition and college scholarships, and adults finding joy and confidence in art. Thanks to its nurturing environment and talented instructors, VAI continues to be a vital place for artistic growth and community engagement, with plans for a larger facility to accommodate its expanding creative family.

I’m a busy working professional, and the ceramics sessions at Visual Art Institute have become my favorite way to unwind. Throwing on the pottery wheel is relaxing and challenging at the same time. The studio has a welcoming community feel, and I always leave feeling revitalized.

VAI is a great ceramics studio. They offer hand building and wheel throwing through classes and open studio. They also have a large variety of clay to choose from! The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. I am a ceramic artist and love this place.
