The Quirky Pet
5 State St, MontpelierThis is genuinely the best pet store I’ve ever visited. The variety of unique local products is unmatched, and the owner, Cindra, has established such a welcoming and community-oriented vibe in the shop. I’m not a very outgoing person, but I felt totally comfortable asking her for help finding the right chew for my picky dog. She was kind and knowledgeable and her recommendations were spot on.
The recipients of my purchase were all very happy. Here’s what they each thought:
Senga (my 9yo beagle mix): Won’t bother with chews like bully sticks because she considers them too much effort. She’s currently on restricted activity due to a health issue, so I wanted to give her some extra enrichment. Cindra recommended a bag of small beef trachea rings, and I have never seen Senga so excited to chew on something! Perfect size and texture for her to chew on them easily, but they still last a while (and the price was very affordable for a good quantity).
Pitter (my partner’s 6yo brown cat): Generally not super toy motivated, but she went crazy for the catnip gift pack I got for her! The catnip oil-infused paper bag was a huge hit.
Timmy (my friend’s ~15yo orange cat): He has NEVER eaten a cat treat. Not liquids or paste, not soft treats, not hard treats, even people food like pepperoni he’ll only ever take a tiny lick and then he’s done. I gave him a catnip gift baggie and he ate a bunch of the treats in the sample pack!!! My friend is thrilled and we will definitely be coming back to get more of these treats.
THANK YOU for the magic you work with this shop! ?

Pet-Friendly Restaurants

Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks
1168 County Rd, MontpelierThis place is a must visit!
The owner was there and was so friendly!
We watched the video and it is a MUST see.
Then we sampled the variety of syrups.
Tried the Maple Creemee.
Honestly, I’m not a maple syrup fan or a soft serve fan, so I was skeptical of both.
I loved the syrup and could tell the difference between them. The Maple Creemee? SO GOOD.
The owner and other staff were so friendly and helped give us ideas for places to visit that day and the rest of the trip.
Rex the goat was super friendly.
Please go visit, it was the highlight of our trip!!

Barr Hill by Caledonia Spirits
116 Gin Ln, MontpelierThis place is a bar and event location. Very nice physical plant. Don’t go there for a meal. Has some snacks on menu but cannot recommend them except as a bite with your drinks. Apparently has celebrated gin but I’m not reviewing that here.

Arandas Mexican Cuisine, Montpelier
108 State St, MontpelierBy far the best Mexican food I've had in the North East. I grew up in the South West and Mexican is one of my favorites. Living in Vermont I had given up on going out for Mexican. Everything up here is nothing like what I grew up eating. Until I found this place. The tortillas are spot on and flavors are too. It's the only Mexican restaurant that I will go to now.

Royal Orchid
38 Elm St #1, MontpelierThe Thai food is particularly good. I was not a fan of the calamari, but there are many many other things on the menu that they specialize in that are worth getting. This is a great spot for dine in, or take out. Highly recommended if you like Thai!

Bohemian Bakery
83 Main St, MontpelierCute place, delicious apple cider cake, fantastic latte(they don’t do vanilla ?) poor service; no one was at the counter or greeted us when we entered. I was at the register ready to order and the counter attendant then walked up but bypassed me and looked at the people behind me and proceeded to help them. Then said something about the line starting there and was just plain unfriendly. Do better

The North Branch Cafe
41 State St, MontpelierThey have baked goods from Sweet Alchemy and Butterfly Bakery, two of my favorite bakeries in the area! Drinks are probably tasty, not too sweetened. It is on the pricy side -- $15 for a masala chai latte with oat milk and an blueberry raspberry fruit bar, but a good place to stop by when I'm only visiting the area.

The Skinny Pancake Montpelier
89 Main St, MontpelierTried The Skinny Pancake - Montpelier for the first time. We plan to visit a few more times to explore the many items that sound interesting. This trip, we enjoyed a milkshake, Skinny Fries (they were out of poutine), Noah's Ark, and Breakfast Monster. The house bbq sauce was chosen to accompany the fries: not my favorite bbq sauce; the fries were crispy and well salted. I hope to try the poutine on another visit. Noah's Ark was a nice blend of sweet and savory. The sausage was ok, but probably would try another meat choice next time. For pesto lovers, the Monster will really scratch that itch! Overall a good experience worth repeating. See you next time...
