The Quirky Pet
5 State St, MontpelierThis is genuinely the best pet store I’ve ever visited. The variety of unique local products is unmatched, and the owner, Cindra, has established such a welcoming and community-oriented vibe in the shop. I’m not a very outgoing person, but I felt totally comfortable asking her for help finding the right chew for my picky dog. She was kind and knowledgeable and her recommendations were spot on.
The recipients of my purchase were all very happy. Here’s what they each thought:
Senga (my 9yo beagle mix): Won’t bother with chews like bully sticks because she considers them too much effort. She’s currently on restricted activity due to a health issue, so I wanted to give her some extra enrichment. Cindra recommended a bag of small beef trachea rings, and I have never seen Senga so excited to chew on something! Perfect size and texture for her to chew on them easily, but they still last a while (and the price was very affordable for a good quantity).
Pitter (my partner’s 6yo brown cat): Generally not super toy motivated, but she went crazy for the catnip gift pack I got for her! The catnip oil-infused paper bag was a huge hit.
Timmy (my friend’s ~15yo orange cat): He has NEVER eaten a cat treat. Not liquids or paste, not soft treats, not hard treats, even people food like pepperoni he’ll only ever take a tiny lick and then he’s done. I gave him a catnip gift baggie and he ate a bunch of the treats in the sample pack!!! My friend is thrilled and we will definitely be coming back to get more of these treats.
THANK YOU for the magic you work with this shop! ?

Royal Orchid | Thai Restaurant
38 Elm St #1, MontpelierRoyal Orchid has quickly become one of my favorite spots in Montpelier whenever I'm craving Thai food. I've been on a serious Thai food kick lately, and every meal I've had here has completely hit the spot.
One of my favorites is the fried rice with squid. The portions are generous, the flavors are balanced, and everything tastes fresh and well-prepared. It's the kind of meal that keeps you thinking about it afterward.
The atmosphere is also really welcoming. The staff is friendly, attentive, and makes the whole dining experience feel comfortable from the moment you walk in.
The only thing that surprised me was the dessert selection. After such a strong meal, I found myself wishing there were a few more dessert options to choose from. It's not a dealbreaker by any means, but it was one of the few areas where I felt there could be a little more variety.
Overall, if you're looking for great Thai food in Montpelier, Royal Orchid is absolutely worth visiting. Great food, welcoming service, and a consistently enjoyable experience.

Arandas Mexican Cuisine, Montpelier
108 State St, MontpelierBy far the best Mexican food I've had in the North East. I grew up in the South West and Mexican is one of my favorites. Living in Vermont I had given up on going out for Mexican. Everything up here is nothing like what I grew up eating. Until I found this place. The tortillas are spot on and flavors are too. It's the only Mexican restaurant that I will go to now.

The North Branch Cafe
41 State St, MontpelierThank goodness for a place that specializes in tea and coziness and has robust gluten-free options. The owner makes me feel like I’m coming downstairs from a bed-and-breakfast in Ireland and being welcomed. It’s all smiles and warmth and kindness along with delicious smells and flavors.
Go here and you’ll wish that they would open up one in your town

Bohemian Bakery
83 Main St, MontpelierBohemian Bakery is one of those small cafés that does exactly what it needs to do and does it well. It's the perfect spot if you're looking for a quick coffee, a pastry, or a little pick-me-up while walking around downtown Montpelier.
The space is cozy and welcoming, with a local bakery charm that makes it feel like a hidden gem. Their croissants are consistently delicious, flaky, buttery, and exactly what you want from a good bakery. They also make a great hot chocolate, which is especially appreciated during Vermont winters.
What I like most is that it doesn't try to be anything overly complicated. It's a simple, reliable place to grab a coffee and a pastry without breaking the bank, which is becoming harder and harder to find these days.
Overall, Bohemian Bakery is a great local stop and one of those places that helps give Montpelier its small-town charm !!

Buddy's Famous
15 Barre St, MontpelierBuddy's Famous Burgers is one of those small, low-key spots that can easily be overlooked if you're walking through downtown Montpelier, but it's absolutely worth stopping in.
The burgers are great, especially if you're a fan of smash burgers. The patties are thin, flavorful, and don't leave you feeling like you just ate a bowling ball. They have that perfect balance of being filling without feeling overly heavy, which makes it very easy to justify ordering fries or a dessert afterward.
One thing I always judge a place by is a strawberry banana smoothie. It's such a classic flavor that if someone manages to mess it up, that's honestly impressive for all the wrong reasons. Thankfully, Buddy passed the test. Their strawberry banana smoothie is simple, refreshing, and exactly what you want it to be.
They also have little gems throughout the shop that make it feel unique. The Mexican Cola in the glass bottles is always a fun addition, and if you have a sweet tooth, you're in trouble. I've definitely stopped in for late-night ice cream more than once. Their massive scoops of vanilla and chocolate ice cream loaded with sprinkles are worth every calorie, and the ice cream cookie sandwiches in the freezer are dangerously good.
Overall, if you're looking for a classic American-style burger spot with great food, good desserts, and a relaxed atmosphere, Buddy's is definitely worth a visit.

The Skinny Pancake Montpelier
89 Main St, MontpelierAmazing food, amazing and attentive service, reasonable pricing, breakfast. What more can you say? I got the tree tapper and a blueberry milkshake that were amazing. The outside location is right on a busy street. However, it's still quite nice when the whether is good outside.
