We didn’t stay here, but visited. The Parlor is magnificent, as is the lobby! A lovely place to take you back in time… can only imagine how magical if staying overnight!

This is a nice hotel in Abingdon that's convenient to walk to the Barter Theater, and a few local restaurants in Abingdon. My review was borderline between a 3* and a 4* but I cannot give it a 4* because of the housekeeping. I had to go to the front desk twice to request extra towels and soap. Housekeeping just doesn't show up unless requested. I can understand if they are short staffed or super busy, but TWICE I saw a housekeeping girl just leaning against a wall on her phone. I think her phone was more important than the guests' needs.
The Sisters Restaurant on-site provides free breakfast for guests. However it's a set breakfast so you have no options, only what they offer for the day. The service is super, super slow in there as well. The food itself was good though and the service was friendly, just slow.
The hotel does have a 24/7 pool and hot tub. However the pool is enclosed, and there are no lights other than the lights in the pool so it's very dark. I tried every light switch and nothing turned on the lights in the pool area.
We arrived about 45 minutes early (3:15) and they adhere strictly to the 4pm check-in time, unlike other hotels. So at 4pm, there's a ton of people checking in and you will have to wait. Most hotels allow you to check in early as long as the room is ready. This was odd.
We will return to the Martha next year to see if things are any better for check-in, and the housekeeping. Hopefully it is, so we can return again. Otherwise, we'll seek another hotel in the area.

Crooked stairs are a little scary a little charming. Rooms are “historic” as are furnishings. Bed is loud, mattress just ok.

I have traveled internationally and in many locations state side, but nothing can compare to this beautiful location. Everything was top of the line from the service, rooms, cleanliness, activities, location, dining experience, and location! The ambiance of the location created a very romantic setting to be shared with that special person!
Definitely, a favorite vacation site that I'll hold near and dear to my heart for a very long time! I hope to go back soon.

I'm sure this place has a wonderful history but it needs a lot of work and they're doing it.
Caution... tons and tons of stairs and it takes a little while to get used to the place.
Sadly we were given a room at the very top and it was hot.
Lovely pool inside, great hot tub outside.
Very friendly service.
Nice Perks at this place especially with the evening port.

This location was beautiful for a wedding. As wedding photographers serving Abingdon VA and surrounding, we see a lot of venues and can say that the Martha Washington Inn & Spa made for a gorgeous space to host a wedding. We look forward to the next time we get to work there.

Didn't stay here, just visited and it's like going back in time. Beautiful restored property. A must visit when in Abingdon. Hopefully we will stay a night before we leave the area.

Worst stay at a hotel we’ve had in a long while ! Glorified holiday inn .. Nothing about this hotel justifies the price they charge .. the spa and their mediocre staff have no clue what their doing. Do yourself a favor and stay close by, just view the property for free.

Beautiful, the hotel, grounds, spa, restaurant, and minor details all worked for the benefit of the guest. Highly recommend. Great starting point to walk the historic area.

The Martha is a beautiful and historical place to stay. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and the outside spa area is relaxing. I highly recommend eating dinner in the restaurant. The food is excellent, as is the service. Every staff member we met was professional and friendly. The location is wonderful for walking across the street to the Barter Theatre and touring all of the sites Abingdon has to offer.
The only drawback was the carpet in our room had several stains. The floors are not even (part of the charm of staying in an historic place), which left us feeling head down in our beds. The carpets in the halls also need to be redone, as I tripped over several "lumps".
For the money we paid, we feel that management should be aware of carpet stains and other issues.

READ WHOLE REVIEW. THE Martha had a plumbing problem and moved us to Holiday inn Express. They cooped us all fees/ charges and promised us all amenities of the Martha . I.E. use of pool, miniature golf, evening wine AND MOST IMPORTANTLY $50. Credit towards dining at their restaurant-Sisters. I verified twice with front desk as recently as 1 hour before reservation. Got to restaurant and manager said NO they had decided to coop room and no restaurant credit. NOT WHAT WE WERE TOLD TWICE EARLIER. The restaurant manager must have gotten to hotel manager before I did because Tanya hotel manager backed up rest. mgr who also asked us who told you we would gave discount. I said I didn’t realize “I needed to take note” so I now have bad taste in month about
this place.
Food and drinks: They don’t honor stated commitment
