About Appalachian Sustainable Development - ASD
Appalachian Sustainable Development (ASD) is dedicated to building a strong regional food and agriculture system in Central Appalachia. Since 1995, ASD has worked to create healthy communities, respect the planet, and offer profitable opportunities for local people. The organization started by helping struggling tobacco farmers grow fruits and vegetables, and now provides lasting solutions to economic development, food access, and health challenges. ASD is known for its eager support of both new and established farmers, offering guidance on land use and helping food pantries. They also assist individuals transitioning to self-sustaining lifestyles, including veterans, by providing educational resources and opportunities. Overall, ASD aims to improve lives through local food initiatives, community support, and sustainable practices, making a positive difference in the region.
