Lots of fun, kids played for hours and still didn’t want to leave. At least the adults can have fun too!

I have been coming here for years. First with my children, now with my grandson. This is a fun place for kids and adults alike!Today, the volunteer in the back room was amazing. He interacted with the children and worked hard to keep it tidy! Reed, you are doing a great job!

We looked online for children’s museum on the way to Washington DC and found this spot. We wanted to take break for few hours before we reached the final destination. It’s at the Main Street where we cannot take the car. They have public garage parking around the area and they provide 2nd hr free parking on 1st hr purchased parking. Just plan ahead about parking as many streets are one way. We had to go many rounds to figure out the parking spot. The Main Street is nice to walk around as well. The museum itself is like a shop and inside they have activities for kids more younger kids until 5-6. Older kids might not be interested but both my girls enjoyed for almost 2 hr. We even ended with the carousel. Then got coffee and ice cream in the nearby local shop.

First off let me start out by saying the staff was absolutely incredible. Very welcoming experience and overall the Museum is a decent visit. We went on a Saturday at around 3pm thinking it would have calmed down by that time but it was a madhouse. Kids running around screaming and parents not paying a single mind to their children. I know that’s out of the control of staff but my niece didn’t get to play much at most of the interactive displays because there were so many children without manners. She did have fun, but be aware that it’s a very popular spot and if your kid gets overwhelmed easily I would recommend something different. Also because of all the children the place was a disaster with most items not even being near the correct displays

This was our first time here and my kids played here for hours. It's super nice and quaint. Love that they have an area to set your stuff down at too!

Beautiful modest children's museum. It is in great shape and has a good variety of activities. You'll find a lot of kids there ready to learn.

My one year old isn't quite walking yet and loved playing here. There's plenty to do even for crawlers. I was with his cousins who are 2 and 4 and they love this place as well.

Really a lot of fun and so many interesting activities from the bank to the medical center to the Log Cabin to the kitchen to the train set to the huge foam building blocks and everything in between. It can keep kids from toddler to about age 6/7 engaged and busy. A nice location for parties, too. If you live nearby and can go regularly, the membership is a very good value.

My son and I took a trip up here bcz he had an appt at UVA pediatrics developmental clinic so I thought he'd enjoy some fun before that. Out front you'll find a manual push carouse for the little ones. Inside is all one level all areas labeled. My son loved the aviation area with the parachute people and air tunnel. The scarf and fuzz ball blower tubes was a hit too. He enjoyed the construction area and helped another kid to build a house with the foam bricks and cinder blocks. There is an area for the smaller ones under 2 years. Walk down the hall and tap the buttons to listen to the numbers and letters. Some buttons didn't talk back and def need batteries. The very back was the bank, kitchen, music, doctor office and other play areas. My boy played in every area just about. We'd def come back on our next trip up.

They are still requiring masks, and it is the end of 2022! We will refuse to go until this gets changed. No one requires masks anymore. Even the CDC is backing down saying they were wrong. Get with the science!

As an outsider who came to visit the city's downtown and spotted a museum for kids, I went in to a small reception room. They charge $10 per adult to enter and a smaller fee for kids that are over 13 months. The museum does have discounts if your military or AAA members. Entering the play area and find out the museum is not that big at all. There is an extension on the back for bigger children to pretend and play. Was there for 1 hour to even try to validate. The staff are very quick to return objects played with them left behind by kids and cleanliness was very good. If you are a member and live in the city then this is a good spot for your family but as a visitor I would stay away as it's not worth the time or money.

We have always loved the discovery museum and are members but wanted to share a recent experience that was pretty unfortunate. I took my 2 year old daughter and was basically publicly shamed for not having her wear a mask. I am a pediatric nurse and my husband is a doctor who has spent the last two plus years taking care of Covid patients. We are pro science and pro vaccine, but in light of the changing landscape of Covid as well as the availability of a vaccine for all ages, we have chosen not to force our small children to continue wearing masks for a third year of their young lives. And 99% of businesses seem to understand this changing landscape. My daughter does not have to wear a mask at the science museum or childrens museum in Richmond (in fact at both of those much larger organizations masks are optional for all). She does not even have to wear one at our pediatrician office. And yet the discovery museum felt the need to shame and lecture me for the fact that I didn't want my 2 year old child to wear a mask while she plays. Needless to say we will not be renewing our membership and I strongly encourage anyone else who feels similarly to avoid this place at all costs. Their mask policy is not science based or remotely cognizant of the developmental needs of small children, children who rely on social interactions (with facial expressions a fundamental part of those interactions) to grow and learn. It is a relic of two years ago and one that I think has far more to do with virtue signaling than caring about what is good for children.

A fun place - but in our household we call it the 'Discover a Disease Museum' as our little one always comes away with some sort of cold. Which suggests their COVID mask policy for 2 year old toddlers and up, while well intended excess, beyond that mandated by the TSA or local schools, is inconvenient, ineffective and unduly punitive and focus should be on better cleaning.
