Henricus Historical Park re-creates 17th-century life in the second successful English settlement and the Virginia Indian site of Arrohateck, commemorating more than 400 years of history. Located on a bluff overlooking the James River, the site also boasts rich Revolutionary War and Civil War history experienced through special events. It is a place to learn that American history is very complex, exploring the Contact Period with all its people: Colonial English, Colonial Spanish, and American Native. Visitors consistently have a good experience, noting the staff is great. The very intelligent interpreters relay stories, history, and lots of items to create the scene while offering knowledge. They have done hours of research to understand the people, geography, customs, and beliefs, and they sit down to chat for as long as visitors can absorb the answers. The affable reenactors are eager to talk about history. Many families have fun memories, learn something new every visit, and enjoy annual events like Christmas through the Centuries. The park is considered a truly lost page out of the history books, offering a glimpse of colonial life and the true story of Pocahontas. History buffs will not only enjoy visiting but may even learn something new. The location also provides modern bathrooms, which are quite nice to have access to.
Best park in the RVA area in my opinion. Hands down. Rare finches nest here too.
