It’s unfortunate that REI incentivizes the denial of returns, as returns made to a store directly impact their yearly bonuses. This store will go out of its way to label your return as wear and tear and refuse to stand behind the product they sold.

Jeffrey needs to take it down a notch. I know I will be asked if I want to open a membership, but when I say no thank you, that's your sign to move on, man. I don't need your arrogant musings about my presumed shopping habits. Had it not been a busy Labor Day Sale day with long lines, I would have talked to a manager then. I hope this is not a technique they're actually training people to do.

REI is always great. This store is a bit small and a bit too focused on clothing.
Edit - parking here is now stupid with the addition of a apartments

Brad at REI is absolutely phenomenal. His knowledge of hiking shoes and trail/mountain climbing footwear is on another level—you’d think he has a PhD in shoes. He doesn’t just recommend a pair; he explains the fit, the design, the grip, the support, and how each detail translates into performance on different terrains.
I came in thinking I knew what I wanted, but Brad asked the right questions about the trails I hike, the kind of terrain I climb, and even how my feet respond on long treks. He then guided me to options that fit perfectly—not just my foot, but my actual lifestyle outdoors.
What makes Brad stand out is not only his deep expertise, but also his passion. You can tell he genuinely wants you to succeed on the trail and feel confident in your gear. Thanks to him, I left with the best pair of hiking shoes I’ve ever owned and a wealth of knowledge I didn’t expect to get in a single visit.
If you’re shopping for hiking shoes or mountain climbing gear, go see Brad. He’s the real deal.

We went to this REI Fairfax store that was a convenient for us last Friday . No one greeted us, much less seemed interested in selling anything. We spent a fair amount of time browsing but the bike wear was confusingly labeled. Went over to Trek Fairfax where we were warmly greeted and then engaged in conversation about our needs. (Upcoming bike trip in Northeast). Great conversation and ended up buying about $330.00 of clothing for our trip.

REI always meets my outdoor needs, whether paddle pants for whitewater rafting, hiking socks, or a National Park pass! I'm so grateful that customer associates are available throughout the store, to help you find items like camping-safe castille soap.

Service is always excellent. I usually ask the guys who work with bikes for advice and theyre responses have always been excellent. I am always willing to skip online shopping to support this store, even if I am confident I can find a better price elsewhere. REI is worth spending a few extra bucks.

Review is primarily for the shoe purchased in March 2025. It was the ON Cloudsurfer Trail shoe. The treads were worn nearly completely down after 3.5 months. They were used for less than 50 miles on what is considered a moderate trail (Primarily the Battlefield in Manassas for those in the area). I went to exchange for a newer pair this past weekend (July 2025) based on previous experience with the membership and management stated this was normal. Disappointed but went on to file a warranty claim with ON and was offered a partial replacement of 20% off and they too, stood by normal wear and tear. I disagree. Again, this review is for the shoes, not store, they are always super helpful. Wanted to provide insight on the product before others purchase.

The cashier named Khunt and his manager Ian have the worst customer service I have encountered at any REI across multiple states. I have been going to REI for more than 10 years and never in my life have I been questioned and treated as rudely as I was by these two. Khunt even threatened me with an account review for fraudulent returns. REI is my favorite store but this location needs some help while these two are there.

Went in looking for supplies for an upcoming camping trip, and was blown away by how many items were on sale and clearance. Ended up settling on this Osprey backpack, which was marked down to $95 dollars from $160. The staff was super helpful and informed me of the discount, and it made my experience that much better. Definitely going to come back here for more of my outdoor supply needs!

They say they have a 1-year policy to bring the bike back if you are not satisfied. My one year is in a week. I haven't been satisfied with the bike for a long time, as I haven't had the means to take it back. Calling the shop, the sales rep said I was exploiting their policy. Please don't sell me a $600 bike with a 1-year return policy if you're not going to honor it. Update: I updated my review to two stars. When I visited the actual store, I encountered some resistance, but they did honor the policy, and I ended up buying another bike.

Our first & last visit to REI. We came in excited to pick up an annual national park pass before our trip & were genuinely looking forward to the experience. Unfortunately, our interaction with the cashier, Kelly, left a lot to be desired. Despite our friendly & enthusiastic approach, we weren’t greeted at all—just a blank stare. The interaction felt cold & unwelcoming from the start. It wasn’t until we politely called out the rudeness that her tone suddenly changed.
Customer service goes a long way, especially when people walk in excited & eager to support a store like REI. Sadly, this experience was enough to make it our first & last visit. Thanks Kelly!

Best bike service in the area. Really super team. Rob and team are awesome and know how to fix any issue (big or small) with a bike. Always do a great job, with great service and they love what they do. Thanks guys.
