I took my husband's car here last Saturday late afternoon and they worked us in without a problem. We got a ride home and authorized the work by phone with a plan to p/u the car before closing, which I believed was 7 pm. We got there by 630 pm and to our surprise the lights were out =/!! My son and I walked around the bay and found the guy who had helped us, Edward, who was about to drive away in his own car to go home after a long day. Pleading and waving our arms, he saw us running towards him, and without hesitation, he ran back with us to re-open the store, open our ticket, and take our payment. Thank G-d for Edward and people like him for helping us out so selflessly. I hope he gets promoted if he's not the manager yet.
Blessed are You, Lord our G-d, ruler of the world, who rewards the undeserving with goodness, and who has rewarded me with goodness.

I recently visited Virginia Tire & Auto in Gainesville for a state inspection, and despite the long wait, the experience really stood out in the best way. There was quite a line that day—about two and a half hours of waiting due to only one tech on duty. But let me tell you, the team handled it like champs.
The manager, Sam, came out personally to explain the situation to everyone waiting. He was super friendly, patient, and really made the effort to keep folks informed and calm. It’s a thankless task sometimes, but Sam did a fantastic job setting the tone.
And then there was Happy, the lone tech who was working that day. He absolutely lived up to his name! Even though he was the only one handling inspections, he never stopped smiling and was incredibly patient and helpful with every single customer. After he finished my inspection, he even took a few moments to chat about my 2004 Mustang and gave me some extra tips just because he genuinely cared.
In short, despite the wait, the service was top-notch. The team went above and beyond, and Happy’s attitude really made the whole experience a positive one. I’d definitely recommend them for their outstanding customer service!

Finally found an honest mechanic!
Happy (yes that’s his real name - and what a cool name!) was very professional and educated me on all recommendations suggested for my failed inspection. He took his time to show me all the issues with my car and explained why I have these issues and everything I need done to get them fixed. Although it can be tough to face any large expense when it comes to repairs, in the end I feel it was all necessary as I saw all the issues myself. I trust in his expertise and am confident my vehicle will be as good as new when all issues are addressed. Sam, please give this guy a raise! This is the honest mechanic we were all searching for!

Extremely Disrespectful and Hostile Experience
I had a deeply troubling experience at this Virginia Tire & Auto store that I feel compelled to share. After waiting in line for over an hour for a vehicle inspection, I mistakenly assumed a space near the inspection area was available and moved my car forward. I did not cut the line—just misjudged the space.
Instead of calmly explaining the situation, the store manager Sam approached me aggressively and insisted I go all the way to the end of the line and wait another hour. I politely asked if I could wait in the parking lot and move my car when my turn came. Shockingly, he threatened not to inspect my car at all if I didn’t comply.
I had my 84-year-old father in the passenger seat, who was already uncomfortable after sitting for so long. The manager showed no empathy and continued to intimidate us. When my turn finally came, I moved my car to the inspection area. The manager then forced my father out of the car, took control of my vehicle without permission, and drove it away. I had to run after my car as he drove it toward another parking area near Target and then back to the store parking area!
I recorded the incident and asked him why he behaved this way. He didn’t respond—he simply handed me his business card and walked away. My father was visibly shaken and is still fearful of returning to that neighborhood!
This was not just poor customer service—it was hostile, intimidating, and completely unacceptable. A respectful conversation could have resolved everything. Instead, we were treated with aggression and disregard. I’m sharing this review so others are aware of how customers—especially elderly ones—can be treated here.
Response to Owner - Update
It’s truly disappointing to see a business owner label a customer as “belligerent” rather than addressing a legitimate concern. After waiting patiently for over an hour, I was instructed—rudely and without explanation—by the store manager to return to the end of the line. Is it reasonable to expect any paying customer to accept such treatment?
The manager’s behavior was unprofessional and disrespectful. I have video evidence that clearly shows what transpired. Instead of acknowledging the issue or showing any willingness to resolve it, the owner chose to defend poor conduct and shift the blame onto the customer.
This is not how customers should be treated—especially those who value their time and expect basic courtesy.

Went in to get the state inspection done. The mechanic, Happy, provided an excellent breakdown of what needed to be replaced and the methods used to get my car to pass inspection.

I was struggling with an engine oil issue and had to get oil changes every 6–8 weeks. The dealership wanted thousands to fix it. I brought the car to VA Tire & Auto of Gainesville, and Happy and Jim (the technician) took care of me. They found the problem and fixed it in under 15 minutes, treated me with great professionalism, and charged about the cost of a routine oil change. It’s been over four months with no issues. Many thanks to Happy and Jim!

How can you go wrong with a guy named Happy inspecting your car? He’s always been very good and trustworthy and helpful, especially with our older cars. They can fix almost anything, but for very old cars he gives great advice on how to get the spare parts online like sideview mirrors etc.

After getting an unexpected flat tire early this morning, I went straight to VA Tire and Auto to get it taken care of. There was a young lady there, I can’t remember her name, but she helped me right away and was very friendly and helpful! She communicated with me throughout and was very organized. She was awesome! Thank you!
