“I shop frequently at my local Family Dollar store and until today, would have said that the staff is friendly, helpful, pleasant. My sole purchase today was a 1/2 gallon container of laundry detergent. When at the checkout counter, I politely told the clerk that I would leave the bag with her as I was trying to use as little plastic as possible, my practice for many years now. At my comment, the clerk made a quiet scoffing noise and pointing to my purchase, said "Well you might as well leave THAT here, too!" She was not smiling, as I had been right up until that moment. I found her attitude provocative and unnecessary, and should she be working the next time I enter the store, I will simply turn around and take my business elsewhere.”
