I was in town on a business trip and stopped here to kill some time before my flight home and was pleasantly surprised. Upon entering, I was greeted by the docents who were very knowledgeable and provided tips on how to best navigate the museum and exhibits. The highlights of the museum are the artifacts from the USS Monitor. You definitely want to watch the movie on the Battle of Hampton Roads between the USS Monitor and CSS Virginia. There's also the International Small Craft Center located in a separate building and an informative exhibit on the America's Cup yacht. But my favorite exhibit was the Miniature Ship Models of August Crabtree.

This place is a dollar to get into. It is home to the USS Monitor which is so cool. They have the pieces of the recovered Monitor on display while they are restoring it which is just so cool. They also have a small boat exhibit that has a ton of super cool small boats from throughout history which was awesome. Such a super cool place for just a buck. Highly recommend.

The museum is great, I love the maritime history and getting to see the many different types of watercraft. My kids love the interactive areas and the rooms full of ship models. The Noland trail around the museum and lake is my go to jogging spot!

Loved it!! I'm visiting from GA and didn't really know much about it. The Battle Theater movie is a MUST and it was very educative on what happened between the two ironclads. The rest of the exhibits made a lot more sense once I watched that. The life size Monitor was fun to walk on, and the small part of the replica CSS Virginia that you can go inside was fun too.The scavenger hunt for kids kept everyone super attentive and involved and because it's basically just a checklist, kids of most ages can participate. We had a wonderful time!! I highly recommend it if you're in the area. Plus, it's only $1!!

Very cool museum. We stopped here just to see the leif erikson statue and decided to see the museum. It was only $4 for my wife and I and our 2 sons. Kids got to do a scavenger hunt which definitely kept them engaged throughout the museum and at the end they were able to get something from the treasure chest. Highly recommend.

We were originally going for the trail, but since it was too cold, we ended up checking out the museum. It was perfect for the family, no wait, period. The layout is very detailed, and they also have interactive spaces for kids. It turned out to be bigger than what we expected it to be. The best part is that the entrance fee is $1 per person and free parking. If you're also looking to do the trail, I highly recommend it, and that's free as well. It was so much fun for the family! The workers as well were very kind.

If you enjoy information about our past, well, this place is a must!!! Very nice location with ample parking, indoor and outdoor activities and plenty to do for everyone in the family.

The Mariner's Museum was neat! The Mariners Cafe was closed for renovation. Before reaching the ticketing counter, I noticed that they were collecting Unwrapped toys until December 14th for a Toys for Tots Drive. Admission is very affordable, so bring cash. It is $1 per person. They gave us a map of the museum and another map of the park (with a 5-mile hiking trail around Mariner's Lake. They have scavenger hunts and stickers for kids. Since it was our first visit, the Vietnam Veteran recommended us what to see in a particular order. I enjoyed learning about the history of Monitor and looking at recovered artifacts. My favorite parts of the museum were The Miniature Ships of August and Winnifred Crabtree and International Small Craft Center. The latter had smaller boats from all over the country. The museum shop sold toys, apparel, and tons of books. The most interesting souvenirs were the desk pyramids and scrimshaw bone box. I was surprised they didn't have any shot glasses or wooden steering wheel or boat ornaments!
