The Mariners' Museum and Park is a great historical and educational masterpiece with captivating exhibits. It provides a fascinating journey through maritime history, focusing significantly on the battle between two ships during the Civil War, including replicas of the ironclad ship the Monitor. The museum features spectacular installations, models of ships from different times, and real ships from different eras. A scientific center for restoration is located in the same building. Exhibits are very informative and cool, offering a solid learning outlet. Scavenger hunts are available to keep children engaged.
The surrounding 550-acre park is picturesque and serene, featuring the beautiful Noland Trail for walking, jogging, and sightseeing. The five-mile trail has uneven terrain with tree roots, wood steps, and wood bridges. Wildlife is plentiful. There is ample parking, and restrooms are clean. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
The entrance fee is one dollar. It is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and anyone looking for an enjoyable day out, highly recommended for everyone. Currently, the museum galleries are closed, but the park and trail remain open daily from sunrise to sunset with free access.
