About Naro Expanded Cinema
Naro Expanded Cinema is Norfolk's last remaining classic neighborhood theatre, located in the historic Ghent neighborhood. Since opening in 1936 as "The Colley," it has been a beloved landmark that offers a mix of art films, indies, classics, and occasional major first-runs. The theatre's art deco design and nostalgic atmosphere make it feel like stepping back in time, which many visitors find to be a special and welcoming experience. The interior features a 500-seat layout with a balcony, red velvet curtains that still open to reveal the screen, and old-fashioned walk-up counters for candy, drinks, and popcorn. The theatre's charm is complemented by friendly service and reasonable prices at the concession stand, where cash and credit are accepted, and beer and wine are available for purchase with cash. The Naro regularly hosts special events, such as the Rocky Horror Picture Show with a live cast, audience participation, and a lively, fun-filled atmosphere that fans highly recommend. Visitors appreciate the theatre’s nostalgic vibe, its focus on classic and indie films, and the opportunity to enjoy movies in a traditional setting. Many say it’s a great place for family outings, date nights, or simply enjoying the magic of the movies. The community’s support has helped keep the Naro thriving, and it continues to be a cherished part of the Hampton Roads area, earning praise for its timeless appeal and sense of history.
The theater was nice and clean, but unfortunately, I probably won’t be coming back due to the location of the theater, but I’ll definitely let people know to come visit them it’s definitely a blast from the past.

Great, classic spot. My wife and I try to catch a movie here whenever we're in Norfolk. They have great selections of classics, indie films, and documentaries. Love to see local cinema thriving!
