The Naro is Norfolk's last remaining classic neighborhood theatre. It plays art films, indies, classics and occasional major first-runs.Five generations of my family have watched films in this art deco landmark since its opening as "The Colley" in 1936. Margaret Sullavan – the Hollywood star of the 30s and 40s – was raised nearby. For us, it's like going home, for others it's a step back in time. The concession stand hasn't changed much in appearance over the past century – and that's a good thing. There's a variety of offerings, the prices are reasonable and the service friendly. The 500-seat movie house (with balcony) features red velvet curtains that still open to reveal the screen.A fixture of the city's historic Ghent neighborhood, the Naro remains close to the heart of the Hampton Roads community, which has rallied to its financial aid when its future was endangered. It continues to earn and deserve our support.

I went for my first showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show and it was everything I could've imagined and more!! If you haven't been, it is a must experience!! And the nostalgia of the theater itself is wonderful.

If I could give this gem more than five stars, I would! I went there for the very first time after being here twenty plus years and I was blown away!!! I went to watch a live Rocky Horror Picture Show shadow cast not knowing what to expect and I'm so glad I went. The place is beautiful and nostalgic. You walk in and feel like going back in time. It's a wonderful feeling. The staff was great and the cast was fantastic. The cast was around as soon as the doors opened an hour beforehand and interacted with the audience. Concessions are available for purchase with cash and credit. Beer and wine are available as well but you need cash to purchase it. The show itself was fantastic. The movie played on the screen while the cast acted out the movie at the same time. Lots of audience participation. If you've never experienced a live Rocky Horror Picture Show, I highly recommend it. Also, first timers get a special 'treat'. I could just go on and on but it's better experienced in person. I plan on going back a lot more. Side note, don't expect to watch movie in a state of the art theater with the dolby sound. That stuff would take away from the whole experience. Thank you Naro!

We all love the Naro! New movies and classics! Whole family loves to go there. Nostalgia a plenty here, old fashioned walk up counters for candy, drinks and popcorn, big red curtains and lovely chairs. Anybody who truly loves the movies needs to go to the Nar!

I love this theater. Classic, retro, old school and clean. I have been enjoying the Naro for a couple of years now. I am excited to see that I can buy tickets online.

Went to watch The Shining, great classic for this time of year. Kids wanted to sit in the balcony, which did not disappoint. We had a great view and the theater is wonderful. Prices are good, they have beer and wine along with popcorn and soda. We had a great experience all around!

Old school no frills movie theater. Comfortable enough seating. Has that old theater smell, in a good way. If you're expecting superior sound, this is not the theater for you.

The naro is a landmark theater located in an old neighborhood. Parking sometimes can be a problem. Their admission and concession prices are below average but not cheap. The movie offerings are limited but for the most part the movies offered are more dramatic, meaningful, and historical. The seats keeping with the vibe of the theater are just a little uncomfortable because they don't flex in any direction. If your a daredevil you can sit in the balcony but watch the steep climb on the stairs and the view from the balcony induces vertigo. This is not your average new theater, it's an aging gem and I hope it stays around for many more years.

Great art house theater. Obviously old and not as comfy as modern theaters but great price! Highly recommend the discount 10 ticket packet.
