Trustworthy is the first thought that comes to mind. Long story short - I’ve been going to Baskfield since I was attending VCU, serviced my 08’ Honda Civic since 2017 (Has 250k miles on it). For everything: State Inspections, Oil changes, A/C, Tune Ups, etc. Whatever it was they were able to get the job done with honest work and the fairest price. Best thing is, they know who you are. It’s hard to find a good mechanic but look no further.

These people will take care of you. This is an honest business and I couldn’t be more blessed to have them as my neighborhood car shop. I’ve lived down the street for almost 3 years and can confidently say this family business is one of the best auto shops in Richmond. If you need anything done take your car here. It’s worth setting up appointments and having to wait sometimes. Thank you Baskfield.

My kid's car is with him in Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University. After having horrible luck with service centers in Richmond (we live in Northern Virginia, so it's not our 'hood) a friend from the area referred us to Backfield. I checked Google reviews and noticed other people highly recommend them, too. From the first call conversation with Eric, I knew I'd found the perfect place to fix my son's car.Honest, friendly, reliable, and Black -owned. Perfection!!

Eric was knowledgeable about the issues I had with my truck and provided options to solve them. The prices were reasonable and the service was prompt. They will be my go-to for anything automobile!

These guys are incredibly honest, and their prices are always really fair. I will continue to do business with them and highly recommend you do so as well. I had some weird issues trying to get the airbag replacement light to go off in order to pass an inspection. They took their time addressing the issue, trying multiple solutions, and giving me an incredibly decent price considering all the time they had to spend on my car. Five stars all the way!

Baskfield was recommended by longstanding customers, a Black Richmond rooted family. My first in-person interaction couldn't have rubbed me more wrong. I have generalized anxiety and was expressing discomfort in signing the waiver, as a customer, and I was looking to have a conversation... perhaps being walked through their priorities, system of care, etc. Instead, I was met with [paraphrasing]"well, you don't have to sign this/leave your car/come here" and am handed back my keys... In front of a Black elder who was a customer as well. It was pretty insulting and humiliating in a moment of vulnerability. I was frustrated and irritated, but signed anyway because I figured they'd been doing things long enough... why not trust 'em? Wrong haha but I needed support. I had a flat. Needed a couple new wheels + tires + new brake pads. Had a power shortage. Check engine light went on and off and the evap code was very present. it seemed to be pretty intimidating for mechanics I've communicated with previously, so they'd clear it and leave it be out of transparency. All in all, car needed a lot of work. Needs even more now. The check engine light wouldn't come on while it was at the shop, so a raincheck was made. my next visit was more urgent. I couldn't drive my car because the gears wouldn't shift. I was stuck in somewhere I had never been before, a few hundred feet away from my drive-thru covid test. Thankfully, a tow truck driving AAA angel saved me and I was able to drop the car off at Baskfield. I called before hand explaining what I thought the issue may be, then expressed later what my concerns were now that I had clarity from the angel. The focal point for me didn't seem to be the focal point for them. Instead of centering my ask, the focus was on an oxygen sensor that they were so sure would get the engine light off. it didn't and I ended up waiting for them to do some last minute makeshift welding underneath my car that I didn't ask them to do. I was avoiding going back... for months. I knew I never should have gone, but I'm very isolated and not from Richmond let alone Virginia so I figured this would be my last time if I did go. This was of course the most expensive and in the end, the most drastic. The check engine light had been on for months, after going to another richmond business, carpool carwash, my back left window no longer worked, then my passenger sideview mirror was smashed... I gave in. I brought it in on the 20th of April and received it on the 7th of May. I don't underestimate the demands of other customers, tasks, vehicles and the many nuances that exist, occur, and fluctuate, but...? There were no updates unless I called and because I missed one call, there was the typical nuisance-like energy that me calling a day later after taking care of myself is so absolutely inconvenient. After leaving Baskfield, I drove to Maryland where my entire wheel + tire came off during rush hour traffic on 295. In checking each remaining wheel, I observed that multiple bolts were missing. The absolute worst pattern of communication I have experienced with mechanics which was very disheartening when I'm intentionally coming to you. I never failed to feel belittled, disrespected, or invisible. I take full responsibility for going back to spend thousands of dollars to support a Black business that I knew didn't have my actual interest in mind. That's not to say the prices aren't decent, because they are. The service is just disappointing. I understand that being humble in your craft may not be the easiest route to manage, however expressing honesty in the face of adversity or simply not knowing and stating that, would have been helpful. Unfortunately, they treated my car like a science experiment. Had communication been better, we all could have saved some energy. I am grateful for the lessons, but I definitely regret ever going. My check engine light is back on :)Services: Brakes

My best friend and I are VCU students, and were looking for somewhere close to go to get a hole in her tire fixed. My family has a shop that is about an hour and a half away, but we obviously wouldn't have made it so this was our next best bet. Upon arrival, they fixed the tire within 20 minutes, if that. I will definitely recommend this shop to those in need of repairs, and I myself will come here if ever needed. Oh and did I say this shop is Black owned!! Thank you all!
