Took my dog in here when she was extremely ill they didn’t respond to my voicemail that I left the day before so I had to call again that morning. The doctor believed that my dog had gastrointestinitis and it was me who mentioned getting a scan the doctor didn’t even mention or think she could have obstruction after I took her to 2 other hospitals they were treating her for gastrointestinitis and she wasn’t improving and still not eating for 2 days or drinking. They transferred me to another vet hospital because they couldn’t do what Rosie needed. I still had to pay the exam fees for BSVH and they took scans of her body that I requested and they weren’t even clear. The other vet said that she had to get them redone so had to pay for an extra scan. It turns out she needed a surgery after all and didn’t need only IV fluid that the doctor said that she needed to get better. It’s crazy I even had to pay for this visit when they didn’t even treat her they sent me somewhere else. And on top of that I paid 7,000 dollars for all 4 places with only 1 (partner vet) finding an answer to what happened to my dog.

I really thought I was going to like this place. Unfortunately it was definitely a disappointment. First off the initial visit was $80 that’s expensive. All for only 10 minute appointment. With no follow up call. I even called to ask about the follow up still no call or email back. I essentially spent $80 for nothing.

I don't leave reviews but today was enough to push me to the point of putting in writing my frustration.I get most pet people aren't baby people. But here I am a SAHM, who cares for her little and her animals.First instance with Broad St Vet Hopsital was when I brought our barn cat coaxed into a house cat into be seen. I put my daughter in my carrier (strapped in well) and put our cat in her carrier (which she's not ever been in to be honest ) one of the latches broke and she slipped out I had to pin her to get and hold the carrier closed; struggling to get in the clinic, the woman behind the desk just greeted me with a "you shouldn't have a pet" energy. Off putting. And then again in the medical room same feeling from the nurse , definitely felt as if I wasn't suppose to have my child with me? It was weird. I explained I was budgeted and had x amount I could afforded for vaccinations and would gladly set up future appointments to get all that are necessary and the nurse slipped out. She came back with a list of things totaling out to exactly what I had to spend on my cat that day. We scheduled further appointments.Fast forward to today. I brought our 7months old puppy in whos vivacious. He had been in before a month or two prior to get a rabies vaccine. He's a good boy , just curious and excited about the world around him. I was asked to drop him off or move my appointment to a later time. I opted to drop him off in the morning expecting him to be well cared for and possibly get him a little after lunch. I received a called explaining what was recommended for our pup totaling again to exactly what I could afford currently to spend on a vet visit. They proceed and call me an hour or two later. Waiting for my little to wake from her nap , I arrived to pick our pup up asap, maybe a total of 45 minutes after they called.I arrive, pay for the service and while trying to keep my daughter chill waiting for the nurses to bring our puppy out (which seemed to take forever and they could here my crying toddler) .... they bring two dogs out at the same time to check out. Excuse me what? No you don't do that, you bring on dog out at a time. it quickly became chaotic because my smart lumpy lug is a happy go lucky 7 month old puppy And I have a toddler in tow. The other nurse that came out to help settle the situation I guess knocked my daughter on her noggin with the solid wood door that leads to the exam rooms when she had most definitely saw where we were standing in the lobby before she chose to use the right side to enter the lobby. You know what I'm tired of typing. I felt extremely disrespected; not only me but I feel my daughter was disrespected as well our animals. I will be finding a new vet to take my animals to. I was referred here by another vet because they were full... but I will find a different place to take my business. I will not be disrespected or taken advantage of.

They wouldn't help my dog when I called several times on several different days. I was told to take her to urgent care. I did that and they robbed me blind and my dog is now dying and in terrible pain so I called back to see if they could help put her down. No, they can't do that either. Not very humane at all. Why are you all even in business if you have no service es that you can perform?

Terrible vet in my opinion. Only cares about making money. Was told by the doctor that “indoor cats do not need to be on preventative” and in my naivety we are now fighting an infestation. If I could give less than 1 star I would. Luckily I asked for a pack of revolution anyways or we would be screwed.

Unbelievably disappointed in my experience at BSVH. I'm shortening this because there simply isn't enough room for everything that went wrong during this appointment. First, I took a day off from working for our scheduled appointment only to find out the receptionist never scheduled it. Had to reschedule to a different day and take extra time from work. Second, they took my dog into a back room for his appointment without me which is not something I expected. He was supposed to have a follow up to see if his heartworm was gone. They suggested he also get his distemper. I don't think he actually had this distemper. (It wasn't on the bill they handed me which I realized after we left.) The vet seemed angry and confused and annoyed. She told me he was on the wrong medication (medication they had prescribed). Also said he had the wrong procedure at another vet. (Complicated) Receptionist told me she didn't even know he was positive for heartworm. (It's in his paperwork.) They said they'd email me a link for the new meds. I have yet to receive it. Absolutely zero apologies for any of the confusion or incompetence. Extremely disappointed. The final blow was as I'm paying the bill and making small talk about the cost of living in Richmond (whatever) the receptionist responds with "Well, you can blame Biden." Maam, please leave your political opinions at home. That was extraordinarily inappropriate. I'm upset. I had a choice of vets when I adopted my dog and our first visit to BSVH was a positive one. This time, absolutely not.Update: its been three days and I still haven't received an email for the updated medication but despite me asking multiple times for them to cancel the original online order for the wrong meds, I received a notification that it's been shipped.Awful.

My favorite vet in Richmond so far. I never wait more than 10 minutes to be seen and it’s usually pretty easy to get an appointment! The receptionist, vet techs, and the doctor himself are all so kind and knowledgeable. Me and my two kitties always feel welcome, and even better, it’s always quick!

Brought my new cat I adopted to this vet because it was closer to my house. After scanning in all of his records they still told me he needed his rabies vaccine even though he already had it. After explaining this they looked back at the records and found it only to later be told again by a different worker he needed it which I had to stop them again from giving it to him. They had me wait in an exam room only to do my cats exam in the back where I was not allowed to see. I was told everything was good by an older woman vet but ended up taking my cat to my old vet 30 minutes away to find out he had ear mites among other issues. Seeing this vet was a waste of time and $90 as they could not even perform a basic ear exam to see he had these mites. I’d highly recommend going somewhere else for a more thorough and educated visit. I will continue using Midlothian Animal clinic as it is worth the drive for the amazing care I get there as they were able to diagnose and treat my new cat for issues missed at broad street veterinary hospital.

I've been going here for 18 years and have always been impressed. Dr. Rose was our vet for the longest time and now our newer pets see the other doctors here. All are fantastic and I deeply trust their care for my dogs and cats. The front desk staff is incredible, too! So kind and loving -- they all really get animals and their owners. It's a very supportive and knowledgeable vet hospital. The cool, historic architecture is an added bonus!

They are very professional and you just get the feeling they really really love animals and they do. They were so good to my little Buddy I just can't sing there praises enough.
