Historic St. John's Church is an active Episcopal church and the site of Patrick Henry's famous 'Give me liberty or give me death!' speech. The church traces its roots back to 1611, with people worshipping at this site since 1741. It is open for tours and offers educational programs about the American Revolution and the founding of Richmond, including Powhatan history. Visitors describe the guided tours as amazing, very detailed, and great, with a tour guide noted for being incredibly knowledgeable, sweet, and able to tailor the experience for both children and teenagers. The reenactment is absolutely amazing, with actors who put great passion and effort into their roles, transporting the audience back to 1775. The staff are really knowledgeable and friendly. The experience includes a tour of the historical building and the graveyard, which is considered extra special. Guests recommend it as a must-see for any US history fan, noting it is a wonderful experience. The site has a visitors center with reasonably priced souvenirs. Worship services are held on Sundays.
Was there for the reenactment and also a tour of the church afterward-- The actors are wonderful!

Loved the experience and all the history. The guide is so sweet and so knowledgeable. Loved sitting in the pew thinking of all the lives that church had housed in its many years of existence....and for the famous speech as well! You must visit. The self guided graveyard tour is extra special too. Go and do the tour.
