My husband and I really enjoyed this tour. The history of the late Madame CJ Walker's life was nothing short of amazing. Her home is well preserved and beautiful.
Sincere thanks to our tour guide, Mark Wilcox. He was kind, hospitalable and told a very knowledgeable and a passionate narration of Walker's life and legacy. We left inspired and feeling as if we got to know the Walker family personally. Thank you. ?

The Rangers were very knowledgeable, nice, and professional during our visit. We will return since we did not have a chance to tour Maggie's home.

Wonderful place to learn about the life of the amazing Maggie Walker (not to be confused with Madam C. J. Walker of hair products fame). Ms. Walker rose to prominence in her community and nationally by becoming the first woman president of a bank. Your tour begins in the Visitor Center where you watch an orientation film. Be sure to check out the gift shop as well. After the film, you are taken on a tour of the house where you learn more about Mrs. Walker, her family, and her work. Plenty of free street parking available next to the site on 2nd Street. After your visit, walk down 2nd Street towards Broad Street to see all the Jackson Ward murals and to grab a bite to eat.

Our tour guide was very helpful, and answered all our questions. The staff at the visitors center (I believe his name is Mike) were all extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!

I'm amazed I've never heard of Maggie Walker before but learning about her incredible life had me stunned. Fantastic lady who had a fantastic house. The staff are fantastic as well. Super knowledgeable and friendly. The tours are every hour except noon and take roughly an hour to see everything. I happened to be the only person on my tour so the poor guide had to put up with all my questions. Definitely recommend going if you're interested in the history of Richmond. Also it's free admission.

Visited in December 2022 the week between Christmas and New Years. Parking is on street only. Had to do one lap to find a spot. There is signage on where to go. Main entrance and inside court yard area. Small exhbit area with store front. There is also movie room with 20 min video which is a must before starting tour. Tour happens right after movie which they show every hour except noon from opening to closing. There is a junior ranger program here specific for Maggie Walker National Historic site along with special cancellation stamp if you collect those. They do have their own collectable token as well. The movie was very interesting and we all learned alot. Then the tour of the house was best. Ranger who gave the tour (also DnD enthuist) was amazing and enteracted with our kids (13, 10 and 7). She explained the history of the house and the additions and the items inside which were original and belonged to Maggie Walker. Definitely worth a visit if you're in town. We spent maybe 90 mins and alot of it was interacting with the rangers and completing the junior ranger program. I would guess most people wouldn't spend more than an hour here total. Worse part was probably trying to find parking. There was one other family that toured with us and also at the time of our visit the mask mandate was reinstated so all NPS in Richmond required masks.

Well preserved home of one of the Richmond social and cultural giants. The rangers are informed about Maggie Walker's life and times, making the tour a valuable experience. The visitors center has a film about her and a gift shop.

Excellent experience.Free to the publicOff street parking does make it a bit difficult but free parking is an option. When you arrive you may have to wait depending on what time the next group tour starts.Lucky for me I had about a 15 minute wait so not too bad.You will get the option to watch a video which I highly recommend. It gives you a more in depth idea as to who Maggie Walker was and what she did to make a difference. The ranger (guide) was very friendly and knowledgeableShe was very open to explaining and answering questions along the way.If you have children this is an excellent place to comeThey have an interactive approach to getting the children to really embrace learning of the history and participating in the tour.My child was given a booklet with different tasks that needed to be completed in order to receive a ranger badge .My child is fairly small and this was enough to keep interest and allow me to focus on the tour .

What a great place of historical significance and right here in Richmond! There aren’t many places left in original condition with original pieces(100 years old!) and especially available to see for free! I’d recommend visiting when in town

Why aren’t we taught about people like this while in school? The site is easy to find, but you will drive right past it if you are not paying attention. Finding a parking space (on street) was a little of a chore due to the busy neighborhood, but not too bad. The Ranger was EXCELLENT! She made everything such a pleasure & a lil more interesting. Note: The Park Service still requires you to wear a mask.

The Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site was very informative. I really enjoyed walking through her house and seeing all the original artifacts that were there when she was living. The family of Mrs. Walker did an excellent job of preserving the original items. I would recommend this tour. Our park ranger, Mr. Wilcox, was excellent! He gave an engaging tour.
