I came to this salon as a broke college student back in 2011 after I left another salon where I booked an appointment for a $70 quick weave but was completely ignored for hours. I called and spoke with reception, explained my situation, and they told me to come on by. Glennis was my stylist that day. She was so gracious, washed and trimmed my hair. I got all braided up and then she proceeded to give me the best full sew-in I've ever had before or since. I didn't have even half of what the salon charges but she gave me the full service anyway to restore my faith in salon professionals. She took what I could offer her and just said, "tell all your friends about us" with a smile. I left after dark but it was well worth it being that I was a walk in. Years later, I still think about her kindness and I hope that this review makes someone who can pay her what she's worth to make their mind up and give her a call. It'll certainly be worth it.

Chelsea is Amazing~ I had such a pleasurable experience with her today. I don’t get my hair done very often due to the fear with my sensitive scalp, but Chelsea was absolutely wonderful working with me. She was patient, insightful and put me at ease. I look and feel amazing-and I certainly won’t wait so long next time.

Visited this location on Broad St for the first time and received a bob cut style to my natural hair by Talytha! Her service was impressionably fast and my roots were so straight one would have thought they'd been relaxed! I am writing this review two weeks later and I am pleased to share that the blowout lasted for an entire two weeks. My only qualms is the expensive pricetag for a simple wash and blowout. However, I do respect Talytha's growing reputation and work ethic. I would love to see her clientele continue to grow. She's professional, personable and a great hair consultant.

I've been to this salon multiple times. On this particular visit, stylist Keisha Mines had an almost unbearable attitude. After waiting for her to finish her lunch, she started late. Voicing her frustration with the day, she made me feel incredibly uncomfortable as if she was doing me a favor by executing a paid service. I felt as though I needed to walk on eggshells as she appeared annoyed by me asking her to curl my hair tighter after giving her several photo references. Although I'd booked an appointment online and confirmed the pricing, Keisha up charged me, stating that the length of my hair (chin length) caused for additional work. I'd expressed that my hair is the same length as when I'd previously visited 2 months ago which made no difference to her. While Keisha is a talented stylist, she made me so uncomfortable throughout my appointment that any question and/or alteration in reference to my hair only fueled her bad attitude even more. Treating clients this way, for a service that is not free and therefore is not a favor but your job, is inexcusable. Her overall lack of customer service and professionalism is the reason why I will never visit this salon again.

Went to the other location on Broad street and my experience was absolutely horrible. There maybe ONE stylist there that can do African American hair, but she's not reliable and they charge an arm and a leg and when Im done and get in the car my husband laughed at me and said I could have rolled my own hair with rollers at home and got the same messed up hairdo! My advise is if your going to represent a label as high class then you need some really good stylist to back that brand up. NEVER AGAIN!!!!

I've been a long standing customer with this business but I felt at times the customer service was not up to what it should have been for a loyal customer who always tipped, even when the haircut wasn't up to satisfaction. I have decided to part ways and have found a new location where I felt comfortable and appreciated and will not be using Nirvana in 2017 or beyond.

Went to Nirvana and got a balayage by Sterling. Showed him a picture of exactly what I wanted, natural and subtle caramel toned highlights to warm up my all black hair. He went completely overboard with it, did a fully head highlight and my hair ended up almost entirely blonde. Then was charged an excessive $300 for the service which took an uneccesary 5 hours. He did do a good job with the "trim", so I decided to go back for my next haircut since I saw he had a groupon offer for a cut. Showed him a picture of kourtney kardashian with breast lengthed hair. He proceeded to cut off over 6 inches, my hair is two inches below my collar bone and so choppy it looks like I cut it myself. He was very nice and shampoo was great, but never again.

Excellent service at Nirvana. Keisha is professional, personable (without being *too* personal), efficient and knowledgeable. She listened to my preferences, assessed my hair without making me feel bad about its admittedly rough shape, and did exactly what I had in mind. I didn't even have to do the "comb over" in the car, as one usually has to do with a new stylist until they learn you. Worth every penny.

Great place. Extremely professional. The salon itself is very chic. I would definitely make this my go-to spot if I was a permanent Richmond resident. The prices are a bit high, but totally worth it.
