Steve is the best!
I came in five minutes before close and despite having every reason to be annoyed with me, Steve took his time to guide me to the exact items I was in search of. He is patient, friendly, and helpful. He even got my cart for me after loading up the car. Bless him and the lovely human who checked me out. As in my purchases, not me, ha.
Thanks yall!

Just went to this location to buy an Ingersoll Rand air compressor. As I was about to ask Ryan questions about its specs and abilities, he was called away to help someone else (strange considering that he was helping me at the time). I waited for 25 minutes and then went to the counter where the manager was. So I asked him about the details of the compressor that I was interested in and all that he could manage was to insult me about my choice of air ratchets and its compatibility with the compressor that I was looking at. I then went back to compressors and waited an additional 5-10 minutes for Ryan and then decided to leave. When walking out of the building, I couldn't help but notice that Ryan was in the parking lot with a customer engaged in an apparently humorous conversation. You just lost a $1000 sale plus any future business.

Customer service unusually less than expected. I was trying to buy a 500 dollar tool and the employees kept walking by me. Finally went to get help and it seemed like they thought I was trying to steal the tool. I'm not even sure I got the right one because I was never allowed to touch it until after I bought it.

I went to the Richmond location on Midlothian Turnpike to pick up a power horse tiller. That is usually a decent brand and for that price. It took me 45 minutes to get there because they do not transfer from one store to the next, so I went another 30 minutes. out of my way to get that tiller. It was supposed to be fully assembled but it was assembled wrong. It was supposed to have it’s own transmission fluid and it did not so I put transmission fluid in it. I had to assemble the reverse cable to the handle bar. I had to put my own gas in it as expected, and the oil as expected that was not a problem , all the tires were put on. backwards. Then the reverse did not work at all. So I said forget this crap. I’m putting it back on my trailer and taking it back to them. This is all on the first couple hours of owning this tiller. so I drove 45 minutes to pick up the The tiller, then 45 minutes back home. Then work on the tiller to finish putting it together and the extra stuff that I was not expecting to do. So then I took the tiller 45 minutes back to them. they gave me my money back with No I’m sorry you had to go through this. No apologies none of that not given me or a gift card to make up for the full tank of gas that I put in the tiller and to properly Fill the transmission fluid tank. And the seven dollars worth of tolls that I had to go through. And the $75 worth of gas in my truck for traveling close to four hours. They were very quick to take my money at the original sale. Then it took them forever to give me my money back. Very poor customer service. I’ve never had that poor customer service at the other Northern location.

All and all with the minimum staff, they have they do the best they can. I do feel that it’s also part of the buyers responsibility to have some education when coming to purchase .

EGO recommended Northern Tool to me after filing a claim because my self-propellor was no longer working on my lawn mower. I took it in, paid the $60 deposit/diagnostics, and was informed that I would be reimbursed if it was a manufacturing issue.
After about a week and a half, I got a call that the issue was fixed. The service worker said he was not sure why the self-propellor wasn't working, but he went ahead and replaced both the self-propellor and hand unit since it was under warranty.
I then asked them to sharpen my blades while they had it, which was around $35. I had to pay for sharpening the blades but was reimbursed the difference from my deposit.
I took it home and tried to mow that week, but it wouldn't start immediately. It took about 5-10 attempts to get it going, which had never happened before taking it in. I called to inform them that this was happening and asked them to make a note so they knew it had happened after it was serviced, but I was going to see if the problem continued. They said they made a note of it.
I used the mower quite a few times more, and it had trouble starting almost every time, so I called again a few weeks later, asking if I should return it to be fixed. I was told I had to file another warranty claim with EGO; otherwise, I would have to pay out of pocket. The service worker claimed that the parts he replaced had nothing to do with it having trouble starting. I find it really hard to believe that it could be so coincidental. I feel like something may have been knocked loose, or something happened when it was serviced. It also is upsetting that they must have not tested the mower before telling me it was ready.
I gad to bring it back, and EGO is possibly covering it, but it is messed up that this could have been avoided if they tested if it turned on correctly before I picked it up. I do not feel it is right that EGO or I have to pay to fix the lawn mower if it was something they may have caused...

THIS REVIEW IS ONLY FOR THE STORE. The Pics of the chipper below is what I bought - and it’s a one star piece of crap!
1st time shopping at Richmond VA store. Spoke with Wendy, so pleasant and nice, getting the help I needed could not have been easier. She was very knowledgeable about her inventory and how to get what I needed shipped for free to that store. I will do a pick up when it arrives. I would enjoy browsing a tool store way more than a mall. Northern Tools in Richmond is a great place to shop (or browse) and everyone’s always ready to help when needed. 2 ?s up.
