Refuge for Men offers a truly one-of-a-kind barbershop experience. The semi-private space makes the whole appointment feel personal and unrushed. Dot was incredibly professional and welcoming. I asked for advice on what to do with my haircut, and their recommendation turned out perfect.
The space itself is stunning. Thoughtfully curated artwork, great music, and an overall vibe that made me feel comfortable and taken care of. I left not only happy with my haircut, but also with styling tips that actually work for me.
Highly recommend if you’re looking for a more personalized, artistic, and affirming barber experience in Richmond.

The experience here is rough. The cut was unnecessarily aggressive for my thin hair. Never have I had a haircut require such a show of pulling and yanking. In the end, there’s no haircut worth the experience here.

I cannot endorse Dot enough. Since late 2022 I have been getting my hair styled from them. They provide the best service and options in Richmond. At this point, I wouldn't let anyone else touch my hair.
You want a fantastic hairstyle, and experience- go see Dot.

Dot goes the extra mile. I have been coming to Refuge For Men since 2017 when I was a student at VCU. I went to them for my haircut before my graduation photos.
I book with Dot because I always leave looking good and feeling good. Dot is an experienced and skilled barber who listens to what you want but also helps guide you in the right direction to look your best.
There are plenty of skilled barbers in RVA but Dot goes the extra mile to make you feel taken care of. Recently, I went to visit Dot at their new location at 2606 W Cary Street for just a beard shape up before a job interview but they took the extra time and effort to clean up my hair and give me a trim.
Refuge For Men is my first choice for barbershops in RVA, if you are looking for a good, modern cut, Dot’s the spot.
