No easy parking. We were from out of town, not familiar with the area. Fearing we'd get towed or something would happen to our vehicle, We just decided to take the long drive back home and drive back the next day.

I’ll try and be brief. I was released from VCUMCV Massey clinic today. Thanksgiving day, 2023, to be sent to the doorways for 1 to 2 week. Observation to ensure I do not get an infection or any other illness after my bone marrow transplant. My wife went to get us set up in the room and found the sheets had blood in urine stain on them. She then went to the refrigerators and found rotten food inside. And they were expire ration dates of August on some of the food in there which meant it had been sitting there an extra three months. even though VCU does not run or operate the doorways, they are an affiliate, and have been designated continued care apartments for their patients. My wife had to clean the refrigerator herself and was so disgusted by the treatment from the front staff it was too much to bear. She complained. to them, but apparently it upsets some of the workers there they put trash underneath her personal blanket as a punch back from her complaining. Enough people have been informed via phone calls and messages and also with the VCU staff that something will be done. But it was so bad. The doctors allowed us to take me home. and heal up there. Good luck.

If I can give more than 5 stars, I would! The Doorways has been a wonderful blessing to me and my family. When you first walk in, you are instantly greeted with warm smiles by the check in clerks. They are happy to help and answer any questions you have. The general areas as well as the rooms have a homey type of feeling. Just beautiful!I felt right at home and slept great. This was exactly the atmosphere I needed while going through a medical crisis.Thankyou!

I am glad Doorways exists for people who have no other options. We stayed for my stem cell harvest in June and planned on staying in July when I had my stem cell transplant. Unfortunately we decided I couldn’t take the risk staying at Doorways and instead chose a hotel with an in room kitchen. This was a big issue with Doorways. A shared kitchen means it’s only as clean as the last person to use it. When we arrived my husband and I spent a couple hours cleaning the 8th floor kitchen. We found huge amounts of expired and rotten food. I believe that people left their food with name labels so no one used it or trashed it. I was also dismayed to find rotten food throughout the walkins in the main kitchen. Not just expired but clearly rotten. I feel for people who are struggling financially away from home and I’m glad that different organizations come in and provide fresh meals a couple times a week. The staff were wonderful and they provide free laundry facilities which is nice. Parking is expensive in the near by lots but they do offer a shuttle to and from VCU. I wouldn’t have been able to use the shuttle after my stem cell transplant since the vans are usually full and no one wears masks anymore. My stem cell transplant makes me immune compromised and being that close to others is another risk I wasn’t willing to take. The rooms were average but hard to keep cool. The AC is locked at 73 degrees and in the Richmond heat and humidity could get a bit swampy. I brought a fan to help move the air, and it helped. It’s a no frills place to stay and meets the need. You can pick up linens to make the beds next to the laundry room and they provide clean towels and toilet paper. Our room had a small fridge and microwave which we used instead of the shared kitchen.Overall I think Doorwaus is a fabulous organization, but more for healthy people to stay and visit their sick family in the hospital than it is for actual patients. We paid above the recommended amount and will donate to tbe organization because it is a great resource for people with no other options. But if

Thank you, Doorways, for your complimentary VCU Hospital's patient and guest accommodations...We really appreciate your hospitality for visiting loved ones who serve as support systems and caregivers for their sick loved ones. Located in the Heart of Downtown Richmond Historically driven hometown, the entire volunteer staff and VCU Hospital clinicals are a great team of clear care and concern that truly, are a blessing... ?We rated your establishment a Diamond ?studded experience because you're a non-profit organization that serves the public as a way to help people, between healing and home... "Lightning the (load) and burdens of cost for lodging, food, and transportation.Although there is a small fee for lodging, we thank you for your empathy, compassion, and willingness, 'not to turn anyone away for the inability to pay. "Also, thanks for the Doorways administration team members' invitation for visiting guests to join in on the community's gathering celebration. With the governor and his lovely wife's thoughts and prayers for Doorways guests and healings of their loved ones hospitalized in hopes for a cure... ?Thanks again, Doorways. It was a special visiting experience for us and our family... ❤️

What more can I say? Other than this is the absolute best organization yet! I delivered my beautiful baby girl at 30 weeks and had to stay in the hospital for a longer period than I thought. They have a special referral program for those parents or patients who live 30 miles or longer from hospital here in Richmond. They are always accepting donations to help the patients during their stay. Conveniently located to hospitals and transportation. I thank you doorways for providing this support until our beautiful girl comes home.

The nicest people! The rooms were cozy & quiet. The hotel was located only 4 blocks from the hospital so I was able to walk back & forth to spend as much time as possible with my honey while he was recovering from surgery. Spent 2wks there & not once did I have an issue! They even cooked dinner most evenings & always invited me to grab a plate. I couldn't be more thankful for such a blessing. Bless everyone who's a part of The Doorways, you guys are angels in disguise! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts ~Love, Bam & Luap~

A wonderful place! Everything you need in one place to rest and prepare/recover from procedures.A blessing for family caregivers who otherwise might have no other place to sleep through the night besides there families busy hospital room. A place they can eat a full healthy meal, and refuel the mind/heart.The only negative I could say is concerning the drop off parking area. There usually were no empty spaces and so an angry driver honked and yelled as I slowly tried to exit my vehicle at the door after surgery.
