My husband, my friend and I (all in our 70s) were traveling from MD to TN last week when our car broke down near Salem, VA on 81. The local tow truck driver who helped us called Enterprise (which had no vehicles available) and Hertz for us to try to get us a rental.
Hertz was closing at that time (5:00 pm) but Scott agreed to stay until we got there. We were back on track in about 20 minutes, and we are so grateful that Scott went the extra mile to serve us! (The Malibu we rented was really nice as well!)
Thank you, Scott, you were a blessing to us! :-)

Bad customer service and discrimination. I booked with Expedia and when I got there this boy said that I have to wait 24 hours until I can pick up or I need a credit card. I don’t have credit cards and no one told me I had to wait and pick up at the same time I made the reservation. He said it was at 4:30 when I made a reservation and so have to wait until 4:30 today to pick the car up. It was 10:30am I’m not waiting 5 hours. So He just handed my id, and my debit card and said I can’t help you, with a smile on his face. I told him I’m getting my husband, his face changed when my husband(who is white) came in. So I get bad customer service because I’m Latina?!?! Ya don’t go here!

We rented a 2020 Nissan Altima, it was red. It drove so nice & smooth. It was roomie, just sit low like a 2000 Honda Civic. But it was nice though.

I want to say and recommend a guy named Patrick who helped so much! And he was nice and accompanied me and helped me with a lot of things related to the car. He has an amazing technical sense! And he is an amazing guy! With a huge heart, there is nothing about him, he is a golden person! It really warms the heart, people like this, he is a super special guy! And I want to recommend him to get a promotion, he deserves it, he goes through a super hard time and gives everything from his heart and soul again thanks to Mr. Patrick dear bless you

Booked a rental on line. Was told I could pay for the rental car and my friend with a license could pickup the car. I called and asked if I could do that and was told no. Whoever booked the reservation would have to have a license and credit card. I'm disabled and don't drive but wanted to rent a car. They don't allow people that are disabled and don't drive to pay for a rental. You have to have both a license and credit card in your name. It was a waste of time booking the rental on line.

My daughter and I have rented from Salem hertz for a long time and never had much problem until recently. I am handicapped but I rented cars to go out of town. My daughter had always been with me and she has rented the last 2 times both times she's been given a hard time. One time the new guy there was difficult and called the manager at her phone and said "this woman...said this..." As though we had nor rented over and over again from them. I was waiting for my daughter to go in and the manager gave her a car that had stains on the back seat and she left trash in the center console. The carpet was dirty and my daughter was charged 100. Extra for leaving the car needing to be cleaned . Animal hairs were left in the car also. It smelled .
My daughter and i decided to overlook it. Even though we considered trading it at another hertz .
We do not appreciate paying extra.

This place used to be great. Unfortunately it's not now. Be careful they like to charge you extra for filthy cars that they rented to you upon return. Totally unfair. The manager Amanda told me when she showed me pictures that there were stains on the back seat. She also said there was a full tank but as the pictures and my own show it was only 7/8 in the tank and not full. This car was dusty and did not smell right. Then I go to put my own things in the middle arm rest and find food left in there. I wasn't about to mess with that. Also we have cats but they don't travel with us. Someone apparently had their cat or dog all over this car and there was hair all over to show it. I really wish before they stick a $100 cleaning charge on me that they would have the decency to call me and discuss the issue. Very unprofessional. I will be reaching out to the higher ups and if that doesn't work maybe my lawyer. I should not be stuck with a fee to clean a mess that wasn't my doing.

Made reservation online for 5pm pickup on a Thursday evening. Office hours said 6pm close, I get here to pick up reserved car and viola place is closed. Total waste of my time and money l

Worst place ever. Do not go here under any circumstances. Losers.They will loose your reservation on purpose, talk over you, not shut the f up, and then call police.The manager description. Rude. 5'4" 300 lbs. Caucasian. Blonde hair "Karen". Lots of problems in Salem since she got there. Used them 50 times in last 2 years bt operation is now full on ridiculous.

My family recommended I rent a car from Hertz on 4th Street. They have rented here many times without any issues. I ordered online and pre-paid. When I got there they upgraded me for free to a nice Buick SUV. I had an unexpected issue renting, that had nothing to do with them. Amanda, Patrick and Casey went above and beyond to help solve the problem! I was so appreciative for their help. I ended up in the Buick going on a road trip with my grandson, making memories. I will always rent from here. Thank you again for making it possible, Fanastic service, and customer support. They do care about the customers! The buick was great as well.
