I have been going here for 30 years. They have been the best. They are their best when your animal has to have their final shot or they pass because they show so much empathy before , during, and after. Their prices are fair. They even support us trying to get meds elsewhere like Chewy for a better price. The wait time is long at times, and that’s why I try to go on days when there are 2 vets working. I see a lot of negative comments about the male vet. He is an animal person, not a people person. Some of you do need to go elsewhere so that the rest of us have less wait time. On the topic of no payment plan, I bet you were a first timer there , and if you can’t afford a pet, you probably knew that before getting one. Those of you saying they need to retire, WHO ELSE WOULD COME TO TAPPAHANNOCK WITH ALL OF THE EXTREME NEGATIVITY IN THIS TOWN ? Just look on Tappahannock Unsensored or What’s Happening in Tappahannock.

This is the worst veterinarian I have ever had the displeasure of encountering. Dr. Wilkins is horrible. I brought in a sick cat and was laughed at by Wilkins while I stood there sobbing. He refused to do any testing even after I was forced to take ownership of the stray cat and agreed to pay for services. Before even looking at the cat, Wilkins told me it would be $300-$400. No exam other than a rectal thermometer placed. He took my phone from me and googled a diagnosis without even examining the cat. He doesn’t care about the animals and he doesn’t care about the pet parents. All he cares about is the money. He threw the dying cat onto the exam table with such force, I’m surprised he didn’t break the cat’s shoulder. Wilkins allowed the cat to fall off of the high exam table and I had to reach across and grab the cat. Wilkins lifted the cat by his tail and slammed him back onto the exam table. It was vile and traumatizing and the poor cat died a horrible death. I do NOT recommend this vet!!

If I could rate 0 stars I would. Dr Wilkins was awful! Would never recommend him to anyone! He grabbed my cat around his entire neck not scruff and hurt him so badly. Held his face down on the table and was letting him fall of the table while holding his neck! Then kept telling me to put him down even though he had no idea what was wrong with him. He made him bleed badly in his mouth and left him like that! I asked him what I can do for the bleeding and he was a jerk about it. He never got the bleeding to stop either just shoved him pouring blood back in his cage. Then got mad because I wouldn't leave him there with him. Nope! Never will I go back to him. He does have a partner there and I don't know her personally I only had him today so this is just about him. He needs to retire. He's not nice to animals and not nice to people.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. The male veterinarian was super rude for absolutely no reason. & sad part is this was my first time at a vet. He also embarrassed me in front of the entire lobby. I do not recommend coming here.

I thought from the pleasant experience with the front desk that I would have the same with the doctor. The doctor that saw my chihuahua was Dr. Wilkins and I would NOT recommend. He was extremely rough with my dog and even had her bite his tool while clipping her nails which caused a great amount of blood to run out of her mouth, and she urinated and pooped on him out of fear. He was choking her saying, “she has met someone meaner than her.” In my 13 years of having her, I’ve never seen her handled so carelessly. He threw her up on the table after he was done knowing she had a sprained leg. I was just told to wipe the blood and he was done. I will never go to him again, this was a traumatic experience for my dog and that will not be tolerated.

Worst vet ever!! The male vet there grabbed my dog without introducing himself to me or my dog and stabbed her with the needle. I cannot express the anger I felt. My sweetheart of a dog actually showed aggression. I will never recommend this vet!!

Great vet. I was left with no choice of any where closer (even refused by two other animal HOSPITALS) and the ladies at this location said I could come with out an appt even. Which was amazing. You don't have that many places now a days. I just wish they had more help here, as I did have to wait 2 hrs for my cat to be seen. But it was worth it not having to wait weeks and the prices are affordable, which is hard to come by now a days. Will definitely be coming back, when needed of course. Thank you to everyone who works here for being so friendly and patient.

This is a walk-in clinic but our wait was under an hour on a Friday. Once inside everyone was very friendly. The Doctor was not rushed, answered all my questions and treated Caesar gently. We left with 4 medications and thought the bill extremely reasonable. In NoVA we would not have gotten out under $800. Such a breath of fresh air being here. I highly recommend Tappahannock Veterinary Clinic..

New to the area, we were disappointed that none of the vets within a half hour were accepting new patients. We called Tapphannock and while a little further, they were friendly and more than happy to accommodate the very next day as a walk-in. Although we only needed a bordetella shot, the vet also spent time with us and did a general exam of our 14 year old girl. We will definitely continue using them for our two pups.

The male veterinarian gave my dog a shot and sent him home. When I called to ask about his diagnosis the veterinarian was shouting send money on the phone. I sent a credit card with the family member that bought my dog in Saturday. The vet didn’t do anything to help with my dogs condition but ask for money. My dog passed away Friday waiting to be seen outside of this office. The vet didn’t do anything but take my money and our beloved dog that was apart of our family is now gone all because of the vet’s incompetence. I trusted this vet with my dog and this is what happened.

A no nonsense small country veterinary office. No frills, straightforward care and surprisingly affordable prices. They provide walk-ins on a first come first served basis. Prepare for a bit of a wait in your vehicle until you are called to come in.
