NAS Oceana Skeet, Trap & Archery Range/ RV & Boat Storage is a friendly outdoor shotgun range located near Potters Rd and the Oceana base runway. It offers skeet shooting, which is a gentleman’s sport, and is suitable for beginners and experienced shooters alike. The range requires shot sizes of 7.5, 8, or 9, and only allows semi-auto and pump shotguns. Tactical shotguns with pistol or raptor grips are not permitted, and 00 buck is also not allowed. Visitors can rent shotguns, though rental options are limited, and they can purchase 20ga or 12ga ammo on-site. Reservations are necessary for shooting sessions, which last one hour, with the last reservation starting at 3:15 pm. The range is in the process of adding a trap machine and currently offers wobble trap, which is recommended for beginners as it shoots one clay at a time in various directions. The staff is helpful and accommodating, and the range has been improved after recent renovations. Although trap houses were down during a visit, skeet shooting was still enjoyable, and lessons are available by appointment. The range also offers archery and is a quiet, pleasant place for outdoor shooting activities.
