Updated for clarity. Ugh. This used to be the SPCA thrift store (before COVID) and I had bought a fair number of things there, from clothes, to shoes to a sofa bed. I was here about 6 months ago. I understand it had been open again for a while-under new ownership. I wasn't exactly sure when it had reopened, but figured, give them some time to get things sorted out. I tried it again today, to see if things had improved. It didn't help. It was messy and I thought it had a smell. I don't think I'll be back. I hope this clarifies things for the owner? Manager? that responded.

Stopped in and decided to buy a sofa. There was a young man running the register and just stood there bouncing a ball, not a word to me. So I spoke to a woman we both walked over to the sofa , she called the owner and gave me a price. I told her I would be back as soon as they opened in the morning.I was at the store 15 minutes after they opened and the young boy was walking around the store, I told him I was there to pay for the sofa, he called the owner , put her on speaker phone as the owner proceeded to tell me the women I spoke with had no business giving me a price,,,,let me mention the boy set the phone in the counter and walked away. Owner gave me a new price, which was almost double the orginal price... I could hear her making comments about the sale. Then when I asked about the 25% off, she informs me that doesn't apply to that sofa, since she personally selling it.Would not recommend going there. Extremely over prices, and have absolutely customer service skills..

It’s a bit shameful they just changed the name from the previous store and they’re using their good reviews. This store is trashy, smelly, overpriced, and a real dump. The sell stained shirts, shirts that smell of dirty clothes hampers, shoes that are rotten and smell of old closets. The management is infinitely rude and disrespectful as well. GO check out CHKD thrift just a few blocks down and you’ll see how a thrift store should be run.

Honestly, I've never been here and was just browsing pictures and reviews. I probably won't waste my time. A little advice... when replying back to your customers, stop making a million excuses and arguing with them on why their opinions are wrong. It is really unprofessional, looks bad, and is a big turn-off for your business. I usually just ignore most bad reviews and see for myself, but with your replies, it makes me feel like this place is not properly managed.

Used to be really affordable and a great place to get good deals. I know they do 50% off some days which is great. However looking around I saw jackets for $15 + , a faux suede one for $70!!! A stained wedding dress for $100 , a plain Jane white tank top for $5! Nobody who actually needs thrifting could afford this. They need to take off the affordable advertisement sign and instead of community thrift, call themselves “luxury second hand”

Stopped in last week to check out the new ownership… Complete 180 of the previous owners. Staff was friendly, helpful, and a true pleasure! They knew we were interested in an item at the time we didn’t have the funds- they informed us of their specials the following day- needless to say we went back got our item and a few more. It’s a fresh of breath air and me & mine will be back ♥️

Not a good experience there. Stopped in on the way home and looking for a table. As I walked around to the furniture area I opened a dresser for sale and it had Tupperware with food still in it and was molding. Opened the next one and had a plate with food on it too. I walked away and looked else where. The two working were only gossiping and asked if I needed help. I asked to look at something and she knew the price. I told her that’s still for sale at the stores ($29) but they had it marked a lot higher ($59). She then said something smart and walked away to the other worker and said something to her about me. I just put the item I was going to buy down and left. Not worth my business and I see from reviews I’m not the only one not liking prices and service.

I have frequented this store for several years from their old location to the new. It is a shame that a person had to be so negative. Why not just tell someone in the store what he found instead of bad-mouthing the store publicly? They would have taken care of it. Donated material is not perfect.

This is a fun local thrift store. The employees have always been very nice to me and the deals are fantastic. Yes the store is a bit of a mess right now but that’s because they are in the middle of a huge merge and what thrift store isn’t a little messy. Part of the fun in thrift stores is that they are a treasure hunt. It has been really exciting finding new things as the stores merge.

12/20/2022------------------------------New name. Same owner. The current owner bought Second Chance Thrift a couple of years ago and has now consolidated her former 2nd store into this location and renamed it JCOC Thrift within the last couple of weeks. So I popped into here Sunday (Dec 18th) afternoon on a semi-regular visit and was happy to find an old Sony DSC-S75 digital camera. The entire thing was complete in the box for $15.00. While the box has seen better days the camera itself looks and runs like it's brand new. AV Cable, USB Cable, Sony Memory Card, Instructions, CD and Sony carry case all included. The battery needs to be replaced as it doesn't hold a charge like it used to but that's s small price to pay for basically a new camera. One more digicam for my gear acquisition syndrome. As always the staff was super friendly and accommodating and I look forward to my next visit in the new year.3-20-2017------------------------------Not the best, not the worst... It's just right.Second Chance Thrift is close to my parents house and I'll often take a quick drive by there when I'm in that neck of VB. When I go to a thrift store I go for one thing and one thing only. Retro tech. That's code for classic game consoles and software. While I don't always strike gold on these visits I have definitely picked up some sweet deals here. The most recent one was an original Sega Game Gear, not the remake by Majesco, that was still in perfect working order. It also had it's power supply, two games and a carrying case, all for $27 bucks. Easily a $50-$60 purchase at a retro game store or ebay. Now as far as the other things you'd go to a thrift store for, they have plenty of that to. Ton's of cloths, furniture in the side room and lots of books, which you don't often see, and a pretty decent collection of albums as well. Last but not least, donations and patronage here supports the SPCA, which is reason enough alone to shop here. You can find Second Chance Thrift in the Lake Shores Plaza shopping center on Shore Drive between Gates 4 and 5 of Little Creek Amphibious Base. Food Lion is the anchor store and the right next door.

I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. I'm a huge fan of thrifting, but this store is a bit over priced, unorganized and seems to lack quality items. A greeting upon entering would have been nice also.

I love coming here because of the people. Amy and Nikki are awesome! They help me so much trying to find stuff I need for my lil projects and if they don’t have it, they suggest alternatives that usually work out pretty well! I’m sad JCOC closed but everyone is working so darn hard getting things reorganized and shifted. I come here every week and have witnessed the inception of this merge and I’m so proud of them handling this stressful situation and still take the time to help me always with a smile on their faces! Even though things are rough right now, it’s a huge improvement! At least it doesn’t that that stinky thrift store smell like a sample of everyone’s dungeon in va Beach ??️??️??️ …aka “thrift store stench” that others have. Love you guys !!❤️❤️❤️

Jackets for $45 and sweaters for $25. If I wanted to pay these prices id go buy new clothes. Yall should be ashamed of these prices
