The Whatcom Family YMCA is a great place to workout and a great option for families, providing a safe and positive environment. It is a wonderful YMCA in a great old building. The staff and crew are very kind, welcoming, and so kind. It is a very great gym for kids to get active with options like basketball hoops, a dance studio, and a pool. The exercise machines are clean, there is a good variety, and they are always working. People enjoy all the machines provided for working out. However, some members express concerns. Not being open on Sunday is a huge minus for some. Others are very disappointed that they did away with the sauna, which was amazing. For some, coming has spiked germ anxiety due to seeing many people using machines without sanitizing wipes, even though wipes are provided. This makes it hard for them to go for fear of catching something. Additionally, some note that the elderly crowd loves to stand and watch you workout if you are on a machine they want to use, which is quite uncomfortable. Despite these issues, many find it an affordable place with nice machines and fun events, like a really fun Halloween thing each year.
The price for value you get for membership is here is amazing. Friendly staff, positive environment, and the gym has enough machines and space to be comfortable even at the busiest I've seen it. Also the YMCA is non-profit, who wants to pay those other greedy gyms with their sales tactics BS?

A great option for families. Not being open on Sunday is a huge minus for us though, as that would be one of the days we would go regularly on. :(

I love this YMCA. It is in such a great old building but I am very disappointed that they did away with the sauna. It was amazing. Sadly, I might be looking for a new gym with a sauna. Otherwise, this YMCA is wonderful.
