I am suppose to have Premera Blue Cross medical insurance through my work. But they refuse to approve the exams my doctor ordered to get me treatment. I have exhausted every route possible to get this sorted, but all I get is Premera and my doctors office pointing fingers at each other while I suffer. The only thing they do not have issues with is taking your money. This just proves they care more about profit than getting their paying customers the treatment they need. This has been going on for over a month now. Again I am still in a lot of pain with no idea what is wrong and no path forward to get treatment.

Website is not good at all. Worst experience. They advertise the national number then they won't help you then get routed 2 or 3 other times just to get a number because won't send out a card. Then they say to call during working hours yet they don't post the hours to call on the website. Contact us button at the bottom is broken. It's a dumb way to run an organization and isn't user friendly. It's like the customer/patient is in the backseat while idiots drive.

So far, the worst insurance ever. Why would I pay 1000 for my medications, where my other insurance never went for my deductible. They say "it's not in our preferred medications." But in other insurance it's covered with only 50$. I would rather pay insurance out of pocket than stay with this insurance. So eff this insurance!! How can an insurance like this even exist?

I am having issue with my eye doctor bill for the last 3 months. Calling the customer service back and forth with no resolution yet. I will cancel Premera as soon I can....

Notice, any 5 stars average 5-6 yrs old, and beyond. The last 2-3 yrs Premera has gone from one of the best, to par with Anthem (the worst).... if that. As a provider's perspective, I can only add to the long list of frustrated vents here. Pathetically, we all do so while knowing these comments will go the same path as the lost claims, and the requests for clear coverage breakdowns (from provider and subscriber the same!).... ignored, blocked, dodged, with the excuse of 'conflict of interests' they can't even say what their benefits are. We will be encouraging our patients to speak with the HR representatives, to request changing insurance providers. this includes the Microsoft market. At which point, it's certain that 80% of providers will drop contracts and leave Premera behind.

I really can't describe Premera any better than Julia K does in her review. No one at Premera knows the answer to "am I covered for this". It's always a guess and it's usually wrong. You'll get treatment after guidance from customer service, and treatment won't be covered but their irresponsible staff holds no culpability. It used to be a great insurance to have, but is now garbage.11/1/2023 Despite the obvious failure to patients demonstrated in these reviews, Premera has the audacity to increase premiums by almost 25%. For what?

My work-provided insurance hasn't been satisfactory. Many of the doctors it covers, particularly therapists and psychiatrists, have limited appointment availability. A significant letdown is the absence of coverage for ketamine treatment for depression, highlighting the deficiencies of this insurance provider.

Very awful customer service. Some woman with strong southern accent and very impatient with answering patient questions. They may give wrong advice in treating symptoms.

The worst insurance company I have ever had. Used Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, other BCBS plans. Combined they never gave me so much trouble. Refusing any medication at every point, doing their best to avoid paying for coverage. I have spent so much time on the phone between doctors and pharmacies trying to make things work, coupons and just out of pocket have been better than using this insurance. If you have any alternatives through a spouse or any other option, you might be better off.

Worst insurance company. Multiple times denied my valid claims. Two times I got it fix by calling them. They have the intention they will denied claims , compelled people to pay even for covered service. It’s a Scam business.

As a provider and a member, I have always stood up for Premera over all of the other insurance companies. However, they have been progressively getting worse! Forget that I haven't had a raise from Premera as a PROVIDER in TWENTY YEARS, but I was at least able to speak to a human if there were issues - not anymore. Now, as a MEMBER, I am getting the same run-around that other insurance companies are notorious for, where I selected my plan specifically for a service (acupuncture), and now they are giving me the run-around re: these quoted benefits. I have always just paid my flat co-pay, which along with my monthly dues, has also gone up annually, as my benefits and coverage continue to decrease. This year, all of the sudden, I am receiving invoices for additional charges, billed as "co-pay."For all of those members out there who are wondering why your providers are dropping insurance contracts, it is due to bait and switch policies, no increase in reimbursement (in my case for over 20 years), as they become increasingly difficult to work with.

Worst insurance company. They used to be good and decent over a decade ago, but old days will never return. Plans offered are getting worse and worse by underpaying health providers and raising more patient financial liabilities. Sadly, Premera doesn't even process claims normally now. They hire "articulate" appeal specialist to sneak out of their liability of medical payments. Stay away from this company. CHEATERS!

Update: Last Monday they promised a supervisor would call me back no later than Wed, it’s Monday again, I guess supervisors don’t have to follow through.my gosh I don’t know how to put this but I have never talked to such nice people who know nothing. It’s almost March and I’m still trying to get my payment card. Instead of my payment card, they have sent me four sets of ID cards. So I am having to pay for expensive medical equipment out of pocket until they can figure it out.Every time I call I get different information from whoever answers. Some people are working from home and you can hear all kinds of things going on behind the scenes that have nothing to do with an insurance company.Again, really nice people who don’t seem to know anything, I don’t know if they’re all new and new to insurance but I have never had so much trouble with very simple requests.I’ve been with them over 10 years. I will definitely be looking at my options for health insurance from work next year. I don’t think I can do this again.

Scam company. Will tell you they cover things and will backtrack and say they won't cover you. Be prepared to sit on hold for hours and then have them hang up on you.

As an out-of-network provider, my clients pay their bills in full and submit Superbills to their insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement. For some reason, Premera thinks it's a good idea to send ME the reimbursement checks even though I've already been paid in full by the client. I call, I email, I fax, I explain that I've already been paid and cannot accept the duplicate payment, and am told that I have to cash the checks and write the client a check from my own checking account to reimburse them. I'm not going to do that. Do what EVERY OTHER INSURANCE COMPANY DOES and send the person who pays for the insurance a check when they submit an EOB from an out-of-network provider. And FOR GOODNESS SAKE, do not sent me a 1099-MISC form at the end of the year telling me that you told the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT that I received and accepted thousands of dollars from you when I DID NOT CASH THE CHECKS and told you that I would not cash the checks, that I shredded them (which I did) and BEGGED you to PLEASE send the checks directly to the client. THE WORST INSURANCE COMPANY EVER. I can't even count the number of hours I have spent trying to rectify this issue. EFFING AWFUL. Do not purchase insurance from them, do not become paneled with them. Avoid them at all costs, or it will COST YOU.
