Heritage Park is a wonderful park with a gorgeous boardwalk and beautiful view of the capital building overshadowing it. It offers a great little walk with hiking trails, benches, and picnic tables. There is nature everywhere, with many different animals including ducks, geese, herons, squirrels, rabbits, and a family of otters in the lake. The park is popular with joggers, walkers, and dog walkers, and is considered very dog-friendly with plenty of trash cans. It features a water park, restaurants, lots of shops, a skateboard park, and clean public restrooms. Events happen often, like festivals and food trucks. Visitors are advised to be cautious near the active train tracks and to maintain situational awareness, as there can be sketchy people. The lake will soon become a brackish water system supporting diverse wildlife.
Stopped by from out of town in the winter when nothing should be happening....despite the cold, we were pleasantly surprised to see so many people out and about. Dog walkers, runners walkers etc. Beautiful view of the capital building. I can only imagine what it's like during the summer.
