About Madrona Park

Madrona Park is a magical, fairy forest-like park on the west side of the city, full of windy dirt paths, many trees, and beautiful fauna. It offers excellent views of Lake Washington. The park features a great beach for swimming, to cool off, or for launching a kayak or SUP. The swimming area is roped off, sometimes with lifeguards on duty. The beach itself is more dirt than sand or stones, with some grass areas, especially to the north. The park has lots of parking with good disabled access and park benches approximately every five hundred feet. It is a great option for kids and the elderly, and a fun place for a picnic or to walk a dog. Visitors should note there are no restrooms or playgrounds within the forested park area, and the beach bathrooms operate on a schedule. A snack bar north of the bathhouse offers hotdogs, drinks, and snacks. A common complaint is that trash cans can get full and dog bag stations are often empty, with some dog waste left on the beach. The park has eastern exposure, so it does not get a ton of sun late in the day. It is important not to confuse it with Madrona Beach Park, as the beach here is accessed down stairs on either the north or south side. The nearby Madrona woods park and trails are also recommended.
