Today I witnessed a (yt) “senior volunteer” demean and berate a (poc) volunteer in a manner that left me feeling gross.. Not only is this establishment volunteer ran but this “superior” is out here accosting people for FREE. The woman after being so shocked had to defend herself and met with excuses and I

It's actually "2512 Proctor" not "5212 Proctor" as this yelp states but no matter chances are that you probably won't even come here because of it's poor business positioning. "American Cancer Society Discovery Shop"... what does that mean? Is this where you can buy t-shirts that elevate cancer awareness? Do they teach you about the history of cancer? ???? If it's a thrift store, call it a "thrift store". I sometimes wonder about the idiots in marketing who thought "Discovery Shop" was a good name for a thrift store. This "thrift store" actually seems like a poor use of store space. It's clearly an overpriced location and the items on display appear to be what you might imagine were leftovers from someone who passed away, after their belongings were ransacked by unscrupulous caregivers. The ladies working here were very pleasant and helpful. These individuals were about the only redeeming part of this experience. The lady with the pink hair was nice. I purchased a book here under the idea it was a thrift store, the book turned out to be just under $7. I didn't realize this but it wasn't priced and I was just surprised. I might have purchased it anyway but they could have prices more clearly visible. This store appears geared towards much much older people. It looked nice but there honestly wasn't much variety. Were I to guess, I would say the people working there are displaying items they like only. I wonder where the rest of the donations go? Not really anything here for people under 60. No: toys, games, movies, music, t-shirts, jeans, etc. Yes: nicknacks, tea cups, vases, blouses, dresses, dress shirts, upscale casual wear for retirees, small collection of books, reproduction art/photographs, etc. This store has little to no appeal to me and I'm 52, I gave it two stars because the people were nice. It's at least more like a thrift store than the ridiculous "BLUE - A Goodwill Boutique" next door (read my review and don't bother visiting it). I'm pretty turned-off of thrifting in Tacoma after visiting these two stores. I'm hoping there are better places, but haven't found any yet.

When I shopped there on Monday, they had lots of merchandise and women's blouses & sweaters were 50% off. The staff was friendly and very helpful. They've got some great deals there!

Prices too high. It’s clean, organized store. Selection is fair only. Thrift stores should be lower than retail. This is not.

If you're walking by it's worth it to step in for a quick look. We are thrifters, so of course had to check out the merch. First thing we noticed was the prices were too high for old, used clothing and the like. If they really expect to sell this stuff, price aggressively! Mr B found some excellent quality men's shoes, but again, too expensive for used shoes. I got the score of the century: 3 Macy's casual shift dresses. Interestingly they were half off of $12, so I was charged $7. It's $6 where I live, but maybe Tacoma still practices "new math" with sets and subsets?

This is an unknown GEM for thrift shopping with amazing quality! Did you know you can donate to the American Cancer Society and help fund research, provide support to cancer patients & their family, organize & sponsor fund raising events...the list goes on! I'm going to donate to ACS from now on as cancer touches so many lives & this is a great way to help.
