Response to business owner for Unit 8 review:
The move-out documents we were sent were looked over quite thoroughly and I’d advise that for future reference, picture of the invoice are not sufficient when you can’t read what’s on it. Though I know it’s for the use of an ozone generator, the issue is that we were charged for this when any smells present were more than likely from the mold and moisture problems. No evidence led to any smells being from a cat especially with multiple occasions of management complimenting how they would have never known we had a cat due to the absolute lack of pet smells. But all known facts led to mold issues especially since you said the smell was in the front entrance and bathroom. The maintenance woman we had never met until move-out day was extremely rude in pointing fingers at us and straight up talking over me when I tried to explain how the cat doesn’t hangout in the entrance or bathroom(like mentioned in original review).
Unless this part of our deposit will be returned or it can be proven our cat caused any smell, I still would not recommend renting here. I no longer have the physical move-out document but the pictures of the invoice looked exactly like how it is pictured in the email I will add a photo of. A separate, clear invoice for what the deposit was used for should always be included in move-out documents, not a tiny illegible photo like we were provided.
This review was based off of our experience living here. We had tried our very best to be good tenants by paying rent early each month, keeping the unit in good condition and making sure to update management if we had any problems to get fixed asap. And so to have been treated the way we were during our move-out inspection is so disappointing. We did not ask for any compensation about our damaged furniture that was cause due to mold from your lack of building maintenance (that was around $800 worth of furniture damages) but then to come back and charge us for a “smell” that you guys could not even prove to us was from our cat rather than mold/moisture is ridiculous.
Everything I’ve said in my review is based off my experience living at Courtyard and dealing with upper management and the property itself. If there are any concerns, questions, or the return of the rest of our deposit, then you can contact me through email.

We lived there years ago, moved away and moved back. We were more nostalgic but wow that place is dilapidated. And the staff are a striking reflection of the level quality you’ll expect. They are slow walking returning our deposit. If you cared for 1 moment about doing your occupation you would have done a better job. The management will go above and beyond to not do what’s right. Get everything in writing. In our time living there they replaced the manager 5x. And the mold. And the smells. The water quality.

Very disappointed, not only did our washer/dryer not work our sink had a bolt from the bathroom blocking the garbage disposal even though we just moved in. We were charged a cleaning fee upon move in that we paid just to discover the floors had dirt and orange stains on them before we even moved a single item in and the cherry on top is they refuse to refund their bogus charge when they never even did their job for the charge. WE had to clean the floors ourselves on move in day. Their response was they aren't giving a penny back and they could send out a crew to redo it at our request.
Before you move in just know things probably aren't going to work here, when they tell you they will replace your appliances due to being faulty (should of had proper working equipment before move in) they replaced the washer with another faulty washer. instead of not working entirely this one now has our laundry locked inside the washer full of water!
Whole building is a complete dead zone for reception, the new manager took almost a week to get us a garage key due to "having too many keys".
All in all probably the worst move in experience.

Very dirty! Management is terrible! Can't wait for my contract to be over with!! Been trying to get in contact with the manager over the past months! All my furniture got ruined because of mold and I haven't received no comprensión for the ruined furniture because of the mold being so bad in apt#3. Do not rent here!!

I made an appointment for a Saturday and confirmed the appointment. I drove almost an hour to view this apartment, arriving 10 minutes early. No one showed up. I waited until 20 minutes after my appointment, called and emailed. I have yet to receive a response a week late. That is so unprofessional and disrespectful of my time.

Affordable but maintenance people are usually overwhelmed with multiple locations so it takes a very long time for anything to get fixed.

My comments are in relation to the application process for Courtyard North (probably applies to all Dobler properties). READ the 3-page list of qualifications (that are slyly attached behind the application) BEFORE applying. Also don't expect the person taking the application to help you or provide you information. All she wants if for you to fill out the application and pay the non-refundable $40 fee. (I wonder if bonuses are based on number of people applying.) Don't expect the person to answer questions or review your application for problems when you ask for help; even when she knows you will not qualify! She will tell you that is the screening companies job. Or maybe company policy won't let her inform applicants correctly. If I had only known to read the qualification list first! She will sweetly tell you that you will hear in a couple days. What she really means is 10 days. The person was very courteous to me but just was not very helpful during this stressful time. I wasted 10 days and spent $40 which could have been alleviated if the person helping would have been forth coming up front. I also listened to her help another applicant (while I was waiting) and she basically did the same thing, telling the person nothing while taking the $40. I do not have any input on the quality of the apartments.

This is a great building in a great neighborhood, but the lack of security leaves the building vulnerable to break-ins, of which there have been several in my three years living here. A recent rash has resulted in several packages and outgoing mail being stolen.

So here's the thing...I lived in these apartments about 3 years ago. When I left, I THOROUGHLY cleaned the whole place and the only thing that was basically left for them to do was to paint the walls and the regular stuff that my $400.00 deposit would have easily taken care of. I left without worrying about my deposit but THEN, I get a BILL from them for nearly $300.00 a couple of weeks after I moved out! ...There was no information about what I might have done to be charged that ridiculous amount...they just handed me a bill.
So...of course, I didn't pay it and NOW of course it's on my credit record as an unpaid bill, damaging my credit.
Let me also tell you, I'm a Public School Science Teacher with a Masters Degree AND a former US Navy veteran. I have lived in MULTIPLE rentals for all of my adult life (I'm 43) all across the country, including Hawaii, whether it was where I was stationed in the Navy or at college or wherever and I ALWAYS received MONEY BACK in the mail from my original deposit after moving out! I am a GREAT RENTER, who has NEVER had problems with any rental managements before.
If you care about working with credible establishments who are not going to rob you, then do NOT move into these apartments (OR the one across the street, as they are owned by the same company).
I want to repeat, after 45+ years of living in rentals, even ones I've lived in since moving out of Courtyard North, I have NEVER left any place with a bill....not one time.
There are plenty of other places to live in beautiful Stadium District, Tacoma...I would recommend looking into them, and stay away from Courtyard North.
