Found my best friend at the shelter. Flora was recommended by our shelter assistant, as the best dog for our quiet but busy lifestyle and she was definitely right. Flora has become the sweetest member of our family. She was very scared at first but within a couple of hours she warmed up to us and became such a blessing to our lives. She is so loving and very intelligent and seems to have a six sense already to relax when we are in stress mode. She gets cuddly and gives kisses to change my mood from stressed to chilled in minutes. She loves her new toys and her new Buddy next door as well. She is having so much fun exploring her new surroundings and seems to really enjoy cuddling on the couch, going for rides in the car, as well as cuddling in bed with me at night night time. Couldn't ask for a better companion. Thanks to all the staff at the Humane Society...you made a perfect match.

Is difficult work rescuing animals and caring for them. The people from Humane Society do it all of the smile. I volunteer there and I suggest you do too. It is very rewarding

They really care here. Such a high need for adoption breaks my heart to see people bring their pups/animals in after they were in their home. My pups are family for the rest of their life. It's a lifetime commitment.

I’m very grateful for this place. My companion/support/FAMILY PET was old and kept fighting off infections and due to not having any funds at the time. They helped me put her to rest. THANK YOU

Always busy but still able to help. Lots of volunteers and staff on hand. With the amount of animals that are constantly in and out, they do a great job of taking care of everyone

We adopted a young adult cat from them a few months ago. The people were very nice and helped us find who we thought was a good fit.We later learned that the cat had ring worm, which quickly infected us and the other animals in our household. The cat had a shaved spot on his shoulder, but they could not explain to us why. The humane society also told us that they believed the cat probably had FIV - a highly contagious, difficult to manage disease - but they told us they do not test any of their animals for this. This is the only shelter I’ve found that does not test for this common and communicable disease.Furthermore, we learned that this cat was not a fit for us. He is becoming stressed out by our dogs and clearly would not be happy here. We want him to be truly happy, and we have to return him, because it’s clear he cannot be happy with us.We need to return him for his own welfare, but the shelter is making it extremely difficult to do so. We made an appointment to speak with them about it, and they told us they’d call us today (2/19/24 @ 3pm) but the time came and went without a call. We called them, and it turns out that they made an appointment to call us on a day they’re closed. The cat is constantly stressed out and we can’t do anything but house him in this stressful environment because the humane society will not talk to us at all. We’ve spent hundreds of dollars on medical care for this cat because of their unwillingness to conduct any sort of basic health test on the animals that come into this shelter.I recommend to adopt from a more responsible shelter that tests their animals and operates with transparency.

This place is great! However, the cat we got was in the wrong cage and very skittish. That was no fault of the humane society. We got our pretty kitty Tuna (Now Callie) about 4 years ago.

On January 5, 2024 we went in to adopt a 1-2 yo neutered male cat for my son. What they sold us what a 2 yo pregnant female!!!! No response to numerous voicemails left for Dr. Bennett or any help when we went back to get our adoption fee refunded. No response to information left on their feedback page. The silver lining is that we now have a wonderful sweet mama & 4 kittens. But talk about bait & switch! Would have at least appreciated a response but then that would be an admission of this egregious mistake! Please be doubly sure of the animal you adopt from here.

Long wait, but staff is very friendly and knew a lot about their animals. We chose a cat to adopt, very excited to take her home once she's spayed and cleared.

So we had it incident with an injured community cat. We took it down to the humane society they told us we needed to take it to the emergency vet and suggested Blue Pearl. So we took the cat down to Blue Pearl. So the blue pearl had us fill out papers, then had the vet look at the cat. After about 20 minutes, he came out and said that they do not euthanize cats and the cat needed to be humanely euthanized. He said that it's the humane society to responsibility since they get funding. So we went back to the Tacoma HS. As we pulled up to the park, there was a gentleman that was clearly frustrated. He found a stray dog and a humane society was refusing to take the dog and somehow the dog got off their leash. The dog was already heading up to the road and back around the parking lot. So we took the cat back into the office and waited finally the girl that helped us prior came out. So we let her know what the blue pearl had to say. While we were trying to talk, there were the dogs fighting outside. The one dog that was running around that they refused. We could hear a guy say the dog is bleeding. So one of the employee goes out to deal with the situation and you can hear him saying oh the dog is going up the road! Everybody is just acting like fools, literally! So while this commotion is going on, my neighbor grabs a cat because the front lady is refusing the cat and he said I just let the cat die out in the yard! So she comes running after my neighbor and decided to scan the cat and come to find out it's a Tacoma humane society cat. So as she was checking in the cat, she was complaining because they're doing remodeling and the humane society is full. This is not my first incident with this humane society. About, year ago I brought in an emaciated female cat. This poor cat was in such a severe condition of malnutrition. So when we brought her in, they had us wait out in our car for 4 hours. They took her and when I called the next day; they told me they were going to just dump her back in the general area. So I waited for their hold to be up and I adopted her. She was listed under Barn cat. So the lady asked me if I was going to put her in a barn if I had a barn , I told her no I was going to have her in my house and let her heal. So with this, the price increase from the barn cat adoption fee I believe $20 to $90. So how I feel about the Tacoma HS is they are severely unorganized and they lack some compassion. Someone could have called Blue Pearl for me, or they should know their protocols. After witnessing the situation with the dog running around the parking lot, the right hand does not know the left hand down there. If they're lacking space for the animals, they might want to consider finding a bigger building would be my logic that are more foster homes. The animals didn't ask for this; they don't have a voice; we need to be their voice!
