“Winthrop Mountain Sports has great quality gear and friendly helpful staff. Erik helped us select new Nordic skis that fit us and our style of skiing. He was very patient and answered all our questions. He took time to explain and demonstrate how the ski should work. I was impressed with the technical measuring devices in their shop. On one digital device Erik measured the weight it takes to flatten the camber out of the ski, which is the weight applied to the ski when the fish scale begins to grab at the snow. He explained that the camber should be strong enough to keep the fish scale part of the ski from engaging the snow until you put most of your weight on the ski to push off. This allows you to glide forward better without drag of the fish scale. The side cut or hour glass shape of the ski allows easier turns. He recommended the Fisher OTX 62 (62-52-60) with full metal edges. We Winthrop Mountain Sports with great skis and felt a lot more knowledgeable about what makes Nordic skis work.
