The Hampton Inn Charleston-Downtown receives mixed reviews, highlighting significant variability in guest experiences. Many guests praise the staff as extremely friendly, welcoming, helpful, polite, and accommodating, with specific commendation for their diligent service in recovering lost items. The rooms are generally found to be clean, quiet, and comfortable, with comfortable beds, though some note the beds are a little hard. Positive aspects include consistently excellent service, sizzling hot showers, a free continental breakfast with good hot coffee, and waffles that are a win with kids. However, several critical issues are reported. Some guests encountered no hot water in their room and an air/heat system that wouldn't regulate, being either too hot or too cold. The breakfast receives mixed feedback, described as just "eh" with unappealing food items. Housekeeping observations include an entrance that was filthy, ruined carpet that could use a cleaning, and rooms noted as smaller than normal. Parking incurs a city charge. Staff demeanor was inconsistent; while many were excellent, some front desk staff were not welcoming, seemed bothered, and displayed a poor attitude, with staff sometimes congregating in hoards while not cleanly dressed and appearing downspirited. Despite the shortcomings, many guests would stay again, citing the helpful management and overall service during stressful situations.
The rooms are smaller than normal, Charleston city officials charge you to park in the hotel parking lot, hotel staff like to congregate in hoards, not cleanly dressed, and downspirited. The entrance was filthy, and the carpet was ruined.
