I've been frequenting this place for 2 seasons now. It's one of the best ski resorts in the area. It hasn't been corporatized and marketed to shove down your throught. It's got a small mountain vibe like Laurel Mountain but a little more polished. The runs are long and the lift ride is short. It's a great place to be.

Although the mountainous location was decent, the view of the mountains was unfortunately obstructed by trees, leaving us unable to see beyond the surrounding woods. Moreover, the balcony showed signs of wear and tear due to the weather, with some parts of the wood starting to tear away. Additionally, some of the electrical outlets in the house were unusable as the plugs would fall out too easily. However, despite these drawbacks, I would still highly recommend this location as a perfect getaway spot. The maintenance team was responsive and efficient, exemplified by their prompt cleaning of the hot tub.

Absolutely beautiful trails and views! The staff at the lodge and ski rentals/shops were great too. A bit pricey but worth it

Best down hill ski resort around. We love the slopes and the lodge. There are some great beginner slopes. It's busy on the weekends though, so pick a weekday or stay late for the evening ski if you don't like crowds.

While I have been back to the Canaan Valley area several times in the past few years, it had been almost 10 years since I had been skiing here. New ownership has done a fantastic job with facility upgrades and snow making capability. I skied at Canaan Valley on Thursday when temps were in the mid 50s and it was pretty bad, in fact most of the open trails should have been closed and they had hardly any base at all except on Gravity. Came to Timberline the next day expecting similar conditions and was blown away that they were almost fully open(only 2 trails closed that they were actively working on and were open by midday) and also had great base snow almost everywhere on the mountain. The new 6-pack lift is incredible, gets you to the top pretty fast even if the gate area is a bit of a fiasco when it gets busy. Twister was a new trail for me that wound up being my favorite of the day and as someone who has been skiing Canaan since the early 90s, Salamander was as fun and nostalgic as it always was. I've always felt Timberline was the best mountain in WV and even on the East Coast, at least from all the places I've skied in the area and it was better than I had remembered it with all the new upgrades. They have 2 terrain/jump parks now and a newer beginner area with a carpet lift where the kids and newbies can learn the basics. Plenty of seating area inside the food court and outside on the deck if it's warm and a fairly nice gift/ski shop downstairs that has a limited selection of items in case you forget any of your gear. Can't speak to the rentals since I have my own gear. Food court is a bit pricey, $12 for 3 bottled waters, but they also didn't seem to mind people bringing in their own food and drink. We grilled some brats in the parking lot and posted up in the lodge area with chips and guac and some beers we brought with us and they were fine with it. Many others brought in outside food/drink and it wasn't a problem. They have a really nice bar area upstairs with a good selection of beer and liquor.Overall great experience, lift tickets are a bit pricey(the new RFID system is pretty cool though and you can reload your tickets cheaper online, buy multiple day passes and also get credits back if you don't ski a full day, etc.), but that's an issue everywhere right now and you can tell the ownership is putting the money back into the mountain. Even heard some whispers from the locals that they are trying to buy Canaan Valley Ski area from the state so they can upgrade it as well and make Canaan one of the premier ski locations on the East Coast. Would love to see that because it's clear the state isn't that interested in putting any money or upgrades into their ski area. Timberline meanwhile seems to be reinvigorated(and has done wonders for the local economy which was slumping the last few times I've been up) and you wouldn't know that it had been pouring rain and in the 50s-60s for several weeks with the quality of the trails.2/2023Back again for another 2-day trip. Conditions were fantastic, they do an amazing job keeping the trails open even in rough conditions that have Canaan and other places closed. Wanted to add something to the prior review that I sadly noticed this time out and that is the weekends are getting so crowded it's dangerous. Lots of first timers/beginners out on trails they have no business being on, throngs of people stopping in the middle of the trails and in high speed areas. We saw 5 people get taken off the mountain on the prior Saturday visit and this time saw another 4, including a serious injury where they had to close a portion of a trail to clean up blood. So if you are looking to go, try for a weekday when there is less of a crowd and it's much safer. The weekend crowds are getting dangerous and sadly it doesn't seem like Ski Patrol does a good job of keeping people from stopping in dangerous sections of trails.

This was our 2nd year staying and skiing on Salamander Trail since the recent takeover. The service has been great, everything we have eaten was good, slopes not too crowded. We are booked and ready for next year, I wish we lived a little closer so I could get a season pass.

Very scenic spot. Ski runs are long for an Appalachian resort. Prices were reasonable and rental equipment was in great condition. Several tasty restaurants in Davis - a 15 minute drive north.

Swift runs with fun turns and twists. Great snow making capacity. Food is reasonable. Would have liked a good mogul run in there somewhere. Staff all friendly. The runs feel a lot longer than 7Springs and it was worth the drive.

We LOVED being in the hotel at the bottom of the slopes. The snowboarders in the family could get up in the mornings, walk about 100 feet, and get on the ski lifts. I know the resort has just recently been purchased, and they are still updating everything. Our only complaints were 1) there aren't any activities for guests that can't ski/snowboard, and 2) the key cards had a lot of issues. If they could have some small hiking trails or tubing slopes, it would encourage more families to come to the slopes.

Nice place. Organized lines, lots of snow making, location has lots of natural snow as well. Runs are wide and lots of options for a small place. Restaurant and bar upstairs are decent. Rental and service shops there. Dropped off a board at the end of the day for service and picked up in that AM. Place has some character.

stayed at an Airbnb right next to slopes. loved loved the long green, but needs more greens overall. kids enjoyed the blacks, then terrain park at night.quick main lift, the 2nd lift only goes up 1/2 the mountain thou - rather annoying since it's the only one running for night ski.friendly service, easy gate access (rdi card), kiosks to print lift tickets - just very smooth operations!the parking lot can be bigger, though I think there is satellite parking where they'll shuttle you. overall, great ski resort with lots of natural snow!

This is such a great small mountain. I’ve been in 2022 and 2023. Perfect for learning and just getting out there. Twister trail is fun. I don’t usually buy food at ski lodges so not sure about that, but we did have to wait in line to pay for water, so one suggestion would be to have a some free water dispensers inside or outside. There also was not a ton of outdoor seating. Also I know they need to make money, but they need to do away with the credit system and just offer 4 hour passes. We live far away and did 4 hours, and didn’t get the credit until after closing time. In addition, the food options aren’t great for any special diets. It’s like they know only a percentage of people are either going to not come back another time use the credit, or they will naturally overspend above the credit and that’s sort of shady. Lift tickets are already quite expensive considering their size. But honestly a really nice place that we will continue to visit annually.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff are friendly, room was clean and loved that we were right on the slopes. All trails open, well groomed and taken care of. We did a Saturday night and Sunday and enjoyed both. We will return again.Only two suggestions, for the hotel access to the snow it would be great if there were steps or something. Walking up the dirt/ice was a bit tricky especially coming back down. Other would be Sunday dinner hours. They are a bit of a rush for those staying to Monday. Get done on snow by 4:30 and have to be eating by 5:30 or you have to go somewhere else to eat.

Had an overall very nice experience here. We came for one day on Saturday. The good things were that they were able to maintain good conditions despite rain and high temperatures all week. The staff was very friendly and most of the runs were fun and long. The downsides were that there is only one lift to the top, the lodge is pretty out-of-date (which isn’t a huge deal), and the lift tickets are a bit overpriced for the number and variety of runs available. The only other place I’ve been in the southeast is Wintergreen in Virginia, and I’d rather ski at Timberline, but it could be improved.
