The worst part of being a beginning anything is being a beginning anything. The folks at KCTL treated the two of us with respect and extreme patience. This made it a very enjoyable experience. The folks were very flexible and ensured that despite the weather we got our money’s worth!

We stayed at Knapp's Creek Lodge for a long weekend in May. Upon arrival we were greeted by Anne's father who was doing yardwork. He gave us the grand tour of the Lodge and was very welcoming. We enjoyed talking with him as he was very knowledgeable about the area and gave us a lot of tips on things to do. When we eventually met Anne and Mark it felt like we were meeting family. as we talked about our families and experiences and could've talked for hours.
This was our first time in West Virginia and we came to bike ride on the Greenbrier River trail which is a hidden gem in West Virginia. We decided on Marlington as it was the halfway point of the trail and our dog Remi was very welcomed by not just Mark and Anne, but also by their dog Smokey and Owen, a buddy of Smokey's from town.
The Lodge is peaceful and relaxing and the breakfast's were delicious. It is a very quaint town and everyone was welcoming and friendly. We would love to come back again with our daughter and grand-daughter to bike ride again as well as to try Fly fishing.

When I first heard West Virginias tourism moto “West Virginia, almost heaven,” I thought West Virginians might be getting a little above themselves. (No pun intended.) However, today, after spending just a week with Ann and Mark at Knapp Creek Trout Lodge in Pocahontas County WV, biking to the Greenbank observatory on the Greenbrier Trail, kayaking the same named river, and attending Schubert concert at Carnegie Hall, in nearby Lewisburg, I now more than ever sincerely believe the West Virginians may have been mistaken in that moto, BUT, I now believe they my have errored on the side of modesty. Today I humbly submit that in order to get any closer to heaven than Pocahontas County West Virginia, you would have to step through the actual pearly gates! And I wouldn’t be one bit surprised to find Ann and Mark to greet us and show us the way. There assistance, info, and kindness was invaluable.
New moto should be, “West Virginia, as daw-gone close as you can get to heaven without stepping through the pearly gates!”
Is it only a coincidence that the arbor entrance to there Knapps Creek Trout lodge happens to be “pearly white?”

Spent a half day (morning) fishing with Mark. He is very knowledgeable and very patient. We caught several very nice fish and had a great time. In addition, Mark was very easy to communicate with beforehand. I would definitely recommend a trip with them.

One of the best experiences my wife and I have ever had. Anne and Mark are incredible hosts and made us feel so welcome. We were traveling around the US to fly fish, and this place did not disappoint. It was incredible to be able to just walk out to the river to fish + tons of great fish able water nearby. The home is so cozy and comfortable. We LOVED cooking in the massive kitchen with gas stove, warming lights, etc. As a former chef, it was a dream. They have everything you could need. The rooms are comfortable and perfect for encouraging you to get out and explore everything the home has to offer. We already booked our next visit back.

Second time this year spending the day fishing with Ann and Mark. I have learned so much from both of them this year. Unfortunately the water was very low and the fish were very spooky ( well it was Halloween weekend after all). But we still hooked a few and saw lots of other wildlife including several adult Eagles in the area. All ready planning another couple of trips for next year!

I booked a 4-hour beginners lesson and fishing with Knapp’s Creek Trout Lodge for my dad and I for Father’s Day…and to scout lodging and services for an upcoming group fishing trip. The accommodations were quite nice for groups of multiple sizes, the fly fishing lesson was great (Mark and Anne were great and it was a lovely time), the lodge sits on a beautiful piece of property along Knapp’s Creek, and is located within close proximity to WV’s best outdoor adventures. I highly recommend.

My boyfriend and I signed up for the Beginner Fly Fishing course and it was excellent! Mark was attentive, patient and personable. He gave clear instructions on how to cast properly, how to unsnarl yourself and how to read the river. We are hooked (pun intended)! It was also a beautiful day on the creek. We really enjoyed our time. We would definitely recommend this experience - plus it's a great way to support a small, local business.

What a relaxing weekend. Anne and Mark were fabulous hosts and beyond accommodating and flexible with our stay. Our intro to fly fishing lesson was so much fun and we felt like professionals when we left! (Maybe not professions but have confidence to keep trying!). Great place to stay- lodging was very clean and comfortable and lots of thought has been put into everything from the bathroom towels to the gardens surrounding the property. Thank you so much for such a great weekend!

My husband and I had an amazing weekend stay at the Trout Lodge. Anne and Mark were most hospitable. So peaceful and comfortable. Excellent service and food. We booked a 4 hour fly fishing package for our first time. Mark was our guide and it was so much fun! I wish we would've done a whole day. We rode bikes on the Greenbrier River Trail which was right near the lodge. It was a perfect weekend getaway. I highly recommend this place!

Our first visit to West Virginia. I began looking for lodging to accommodate a family of six and we would like accessibility to a variety of activities to hold everyone's attention. I performed the proverbial Google search and found Knapps Creek Trout Lodge. I called the lodge and spoke with the general manager Anne Mitchell and from that point on all our worries and concerns disappeared. Anne and Mark are wonderful at what they do, running the lodge, fly fish guiding, and very knowledgeable about Pocahontas County and surrounding areas. Prior to booking our reservation they suggested numerous fun activities to satisfy the doubts we had about visiting a place we had never been to before. We booked the stay and upon arrival Anne and Mark greeted us as if we were returning guests at the lodge. Their friendliness and sincerity set the stage for a marvelous vacation. We hiked and biked trails took scenic drives, explored caverns and tossed fly lines into the waters that flow through the area. Anne and Mark love to fly fish and their personalities made our group lesson and guided time perfect. They taught the basics without overwhelming us and came along side when we waded into the stream. They are super guides and offer excellent teaching and inspiration as we pursued the sport of fly fishing. The location is fantastic being situated on the bank of Knapps Creek and the lodge offers privacy and solitude. One can sit on the covered rear deck and listen to the flowing waters as they pass over rocks in the creek. The feeling is true serenity and peacefulness. If only every day could be like this. We already miss the delicious breakfasts, comfortable beds, and camaraderie during our time at Knapps Creek Trout Lodge. We look forward to our next visit.

Mark and Ann were exceptional hosts. The lodge, situated on the banks of the lovely Knapp River, was beautifully appointed, offering extremely comfortable rooms, and a cozy kitchen and great room, perfect for reading by the fire and watching the snow fall on the river. The meals Ann and Mark prepared and served were nothing less than exceptional. The smoked trout benedict was my favorite, I am a novice fly angler, but my friend is experienced. Ann and Mark spent a great deal of time teaching us in and out of the water. They provide full tack and gear which is top of the line. I look forward to a return trip to the lodge!
