TLDR: Not worth the price; appointments are rushed; lack of confidence and care.I've waited to gather my thoughts about this place since my last visit---which was a very poor experience---before I put in my final review. Now, here it is.For two years, my family invested in Roots' services, specifically Rickey's hair highlighting and cuts. During this time, my parents put a GREAT deal of money into my hair, and that fact should not be overlooked. They have no issue properly compensating service workers; the issue arises when the quality of the services being provided no longer matches the high expenses.Over the course of those two years, I thought I developed a solid rapport with Rickey. I am a rather shy, socially anxious teen, and because of that, I enjoyed Rickey's professional, witty, and honest personality. Before I elaborate, I want to fully emphasize that point. Rickey is clearly a hard-worker with a good heart. On a personal level, I have no issues with him. My issues revolve around the decreasing quality of his services, with the high prices remaining. For background, I have long, straight, thick hair, and my natural hair color is a dark brown. During most of my appointments with Rickey, I requested the same look: a warm, golden, well-blended blonde that was not "stripey."Ultimately, there are a plethora of issues I've encountered during these two years that I've spent far too long ignoring due to me not wanting to come across as a "Karen."First of all, Rickey rushes his appointments, and it shows. He’s often had other clients present during my appointments, waiting for him to do their hair, which has caused him to rush his work. This led me to recognize how hard-working the man is, but to also worry that juggling all of these appointments at once might not be the best for his clients in terms of the quality they receive from him. Personally, I've often felt shy to ask for additional things nearing the end of the bleaching process, such as more layers and face-framing bits, because I would see how busy/intense Rickey was.His rushing brings forth several other issues, one being that he doesn’t wash hair properly. Ricky always left A LOT of product in my hair and tried to get it out with a towel instead of properly rinsing it; he’d also spray TOO MUCH detangler into my scalp instead of just cleaning my hair well. I know this is a Rickey thing because back when a female trainee washed my hair several months ago, my hair actually felt clean. In the same breath, I can't express how many times I've left the salon with a sopping neck, shirt, and sweatshirt.Another issue that arises due to these rushed appointments creeps into the blow drying process. 99% of the time, Rickey failed to fully blow dry my hair. He’d put the blow dryer on the hottest, most violent setting, which burned me multiple times. More, he’d only dry the top portion of my hair, leaving the complete under-half damp. Then, regarding cutting, I can see that Rickey either lacks the confidence or skill necessary to give a long-haired girl a good cut. The layers he’d cut were pretty, but so minimal. He didn’t seem to care much about actual face-framing, and he never used hair-thinning shears to cut my long hair. Finally, the nail in the coffin for me: my last visit. I wanted "the usual," only to exit the salon with half-dried, product-ridden, murky, streaky, almost RED-colored highlighted hair. There was zero communication—Rickey actually seemed like he was on autopilot, to be honest.I wasn't happy with my hair at all, but I tried to wait until I left the salon to look at it in natural lighting. My dissatisfaction intensified, though, when Rickey tried to drain more money out of my visit by showing me two products I didn't need. When I told the man "no...sorry," his eyes widened in shock. I didn't grasp this, since my dad was already paying like $300+ (plus tip) for the rushed job, without the needless products.Left section is what I got, right is what I used to

This is so hard to say. My hair turned out reddish with bright red on the temples. The cost is outrageous. They said they would apply toner to make up for the mistake . But she foiled my hair and that’s what I wanted. And for it to be a light highlight. They said if I wanted it to be re-foiled it would be 245.00. They have to be kidding. It looks like I did the box color.Services: Hair highlighting

I called the salon Sat morning to get a last minute appt for my 12 yr old granddaughter as she is going to be in a wedding this coming weekend. She has been there before as have I. I was not asked about a specific stylist but as this was last minute I assumed that when I stated that it was for a 12 yr old for a haircut, under shave, and eyebrow waxing that they would have assigned someone competent. Oh wait, I just assumed all of their stylists are competent. She comes out to the waiting room and shows me her hair, which has long odd pieces hanging down. Apparently this is what layers is supposed to look like. After 2 tries the stylist fixed it and we left. Stepping out into the sunlight I took one look at her face and asked her what they did to her. The brows were all choppy, broken off at skin level, and she was horribly red, swollen and obviously in pain. I went back in and was told that the person who did it was only a level one technician, and still training. And they assigned her a child before she was competent. I told them I needed a manager and surprise there wasn't one. They had a "senior" technician come out had attempt to fix it, but she finally said that she was afraid to do any more as she was afraid of pulling off skin. On a 12 yr old. She was able to get some of the redness and swelling down though. I thought that I should check the under shave before leaving again and I'm so glad I did. I could have done better blindfolded, with a dull straight razor, using my non dominant hand than this woman did. And I am not exaggerating in the slightest. Whole chunks were missed, the upper shave line was non repairable because it was too uneven , the bottom shave line is now approximately 1-1/2 inches higher than it was, and the skin irritation is quite severe from the razor going over it so many times. I have absolutely no idea on covering any of this up for the wedding pictures or even minimizing it. I won't even go into how upset her mother is, nor how the bride to be is. I have been using Roots for a few years as I considered them a better quality salon. Obviously this is no longer the case. User beware.Services: Waxing

This has been the most awful experience I have had at a hair salon.I went in for a full highlight and it was not applied up to my roots and was not blended at all. The middle of the back of my head was also not colored at all! This happened on Friday and when I called I was told I had two options to either come back into the same level stylist (a more experienced person would NOT fix it) or get a refund. I asked for a refund and they promised a manager would call me on Monday. When the manager finally called she was incredibly rude, was not willing to see the pictures I had, and only offered a refund on a fraction of what I was charged. My hair was so messed up it cost me $300 to get it fixed.DO NOT GO HERE!!!Service: Hair highlighting

Terrible experience today. $$240 dollar for highlight and cut for short hair!!!!!!!!! Never in my life have I ever paid that much. They charge you for cut $67, $highlight $128, toner fee $34, and $12 fee for product usage as they style your hair. This appt was for my mom and she was in tears after the appointment because we had no idea it would be so much money! I asked to speak with manager and she just stood there and wouldn't give me any money off. I explained that it was her first time there and first time getting her hair dyed professionally and what a terrible experience it was for her. Manager did nothing!! Manage could at least given 30% off or something. The stylist was actually the one to say, can we give her $20 off?? Plus my mom is not happy with her cut and will have to come back to get more taken off. Will never book here again. Don't waste your money.

I had my eyebrows waxed here for 23 dollars. For that price I was expecting a higher level of quality and care. The whole process was completed at the wash bowl and took all of 3 minutes. After the waxing there was no tweezing of remaining hairs or cleaning up the edges. I got home and had to do that part myself. For 23 dollars absolutely would not recommend.Service: Body waxing

Paid way too much money for a haircut I could have got at Supercuts. The stylist is known for cutting men’s hair so I think maybe he just wasn’t that in to me. Not super personable. Cut my hair but it has no personality and my kid has to fix several spots where he left long strands. I requested a full style but he couldn’t be bothered so he kinda sorta blow dried a couple of areas. This was big chop for me, so I was hoping for a more engaging experience. Instead I’m left with choppy, style-less hair. Sigh. Booked my normal stylist from the parking lot to fix this mess next month. Never again will I impulsively chop my hair with the first available. 5/10 do not recommend.Services: Haircut

Was looking for a trim for my 8yo. They had an opening and booked the spot. They list kids cut as $30, and it does have the *price may change with provider. At the end of my daughter's 4 minute haircut the price was $45. No shampoo, no style, just a dry trim on ends. I'm just disappointed I was never told the price would be higher due to our stylist- not when booking, not when we checked in. Service was only fair. We will not return.Service: Haircut

Lexie is supposed to be a master stylist, but I'm currently sitting in a chair at another salon being told exactly why my wolf cut looked like a basic long layer cut with one short layer on top. See pictures for what I asked for vs. what I got. She's sweet, but she is no master!

Spent $80 on a hair cut and only asked for 2 things, to have a couple inches cut off and to add layers. My hair stylist didn’t say a word to me the entire time. I realized a couple days later that she never cut layers into my hair. I have super thick hair so I look like Lord Farquad now. Just strange because every single hair stylist I’ve ever been to has cut layers into my hair so that it’s easy to manage. Now I’ll have to spend money elsewhere to have it fix. Unhappy :(

Save yourself the trouble - prices are outrageous for the service they provide. Services will be changed on the spot based on what the stylist suggests and it's 2-3 times more expensive without any mention of it. They charge you toner prices to use purple shampoo on you and $65 for a trim and blowdry is way too much - especially when they don't even use a round brush. Literally used fingers to dry hair. I can do that at home!!! Trying to charge Neroli prices for cost cutter services. Go elsewhere!!

I booked a same day appointment with a stylist to get a style and roots touch up. The occasion was save the date photos, which I made clear upfront. Last time I was here I was told they could just look up my previous color in a system. This stylist didn’t look it up, but he kept bringing me swatches to guess which I’d had when I came in a month earlier. I did remember the color and that my previous stylist sort of mixed two shades for me. He picked the darker color. He worked VERY fast. He didn’t apply anything to my skin, like petroleum jelly, to keep the dye off. Then he told me I’d need to leave my chair for 40 minutes because he had a full foil customer coming in. I sat in an empty seat while he chatted away with his new customer. In fact it seemed they were already friends. Mind you he barely said a word to me. A female stylist then came and told me abruptly she would be helping me for the rest of my time. When it came time to style, I noticed that there was a ring of dye around my hairline. She loosely scrubbed but said there was “only so much” she could do to get it off. I told her I had photos later and mentioned that nothing was applied to prevent the dye from sticking. To which said said “I’m not the one who placed it.” She gave me a nice style, but you can see in the photos for yourself the job that the first stylist did for me. As if the dye halo wasn’t enough, the re touch didn’t match, since like I told him that dark color was not correct. This is the only bad review I’ve ever taken the time to write.Service: Hair coloring
