This is a really nice park and campground. Sites are good sized and spread out pretty good. Vault toilets are newer and clean. Picnic tables are composite instead of rotting wood. The trails are nice and wide and in good condition. Beautiful. And best of all almost no one else was there in November!

1st time being here so I haven't really explored much of this state park but from the 3/4 mile trail my family and I took was absolutely gorgeous. And also very informative with the bulletin boards along the trail explaining the different kinds of animal, plants, etc. Highly recommend!!!

This place is an amazing spot for camping. There aren't too many people around, and each campsite offers ample space, ensuring privacy from neighboring sites. While the bathrooms may not be fancy, there are plenty of portable toilets scattered throughout the area.

If your a walk in tent camper this is a great place for you. there has got to be about 50 isolated tent sites... The RV/tent sites are all fairly level with room for some good size rigs. Lots of canoe launch sites and a good boat launch. Paved road ways for family bike rides. Only thing I found disappointing was that, with all that land there are almost no trails to hike.... Its sad really.....

Some of the facilities were in horrible shape. One seemed to be occupied by animals. The water system is horrific. The water comes out clear, but quickly turns brown, and then the brown turns to actual flakes in the water. Assuming the water is actually safe to drink, they need a filtration system to deal with the sediment. The man and woman who clean the bathrooms load up their state ATV with firewood left by campers for the next people. That's a pathetic violation of the custom of leaving wood for the next camper.

This is really a gorgeous spot, the beach is phenomenal, a nice 20ft sand bar 3 feet under water to play Frisbee/ catch in. Okay volleyball area, with beautifully secluded walk to camp sites. A bug candle was enough to resist being eaten alive.Restrooms: It's a porter potty, what are you expecting.Dog-friendliness: Dogs welcome but not allowed at the beach. Disappointing but I understand since there's a lot of selfish dog owners out therePicnic area: Tables, grills, shade, volleyball.

Arrived in August. Zero bugs, plenty of sunshine, so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Went paddleboarding from the canoe landing. It was lily pad heaven. For ppl with families: there are canoes to rent at the landing. It's super easy to get to: enter the park, follow the road until you reach a T, turn left, follow to the end of the road. The park maps are incredibly helpful. There is a park for kids to play, great campsites, lots of fishing opportunities (I saw some big fish under my board), and the beautiful birds around the waters edge are fun to watch. This would be a GREAT place to camp in August for sure!Recently, my family even held their family reunion there. Great buildings near the water, clean restrooms, and zero bug spray needed. I assume May is buggy because I know the area and May is mosquito torture. But August is paradise. If I wanted a summer day on the water with my family, I'd go here or Mirror Lake.Restrooms: Clean restrooms throughout the park. Including at the canoe landing and at the building we had our family reunion.

I agree with Linda's review. We just returned from 4 nights (sites 70-76 in late July 2023) with a group of families.Everything about the facilities, staff and host were excellent. However, there is no amount of clothing and bug spray to protect you from the mosquitoes, horseflies, green flies and other assorted biting bugs. Hiking through the forest was a huge mistake (we only made that mistake once). You will be bitten from the time you leave your tent until the time you retreat to your tent. I easily have over 100 bites. Plus one site had a ground hornet nest that launched an attack on our dog and five of our campers. We have camped at over a dozen Wisconsin state parks. This one is at the bottom of the list.... because of the bugs. It does offer great facilities and recreation that are more likely to be enjoyed in the cooler times of the year (fall, winter or spring).

Great wooded campsites and very nice lake for boating and swimming. Buckhorn is pretty out of the way, so try to bring in everything you will need. Lots of bugs, but otherwise a pleasant camping experience.

Not bad for swimming. Boat landing is nice. Plenty parking space. They have picnic benches. There is a bathroom to change or go to bathroom but needs to be kept cleaner. Parking here is $8.00/day or $28.00 annually for State parks & forests. Dogs are not allowed

Awesome park with so much space to explore! Love the backpack camp sites! Very private and remote! We stayed at site 15 and used our 16' fishing boat to get there! Water is shallow near campsite but we were able to anchor boat abt 20' from shore and wade thru the 1' or less of water with our stuff! No weeds!!!Bring bug spray, more bug spray and then pack one extra can!!! If you fog site 1st and stay on top of spray, it's totally enjoyable! Pick EVERYTHING up at night as raccoons are everywhere!!!Water was clean enough to swim and small beach area for sand play at site! (Be cautious of algae blooms when swimming)We launched at launch A within the park, nice launch but a little shallow so not ideal for big boats! Plenty of parking space and decent dock! We have a flat bottom fishing boat so launching here was perfect for us! Less than 8 min boat ride to site 15 from launch A!Across Castle Rock Lake, Citgo gas station right on water for boat access! Great for ice, snacks and cold beer! Couple restaurants and bars with boat access on Castle Rock also!Worth mentioning that site 13 and 14 are right next to each other! Very little space between sites!

$8 gets you a day pass. The beach wasn't crowded..people spent about 1-2 hours there on average. Waked down the road to the pond, deer area and tower, but the mosquitos were deadly. It looked like I just got acupuncture! Didn't see anything but the pond before my group turned around ? can't do much about bugs, you're outside...so don't let that stop you from coming here. The girl working the entrance on 6-18 was friendly and the park workers were out keeping things wonderful! Had to pick up some trash from the last people that used the tables we went for, but that's normal stuff..always pick the dirtiest looking spot so my kids and I can clean both our mess and their's before leaving ❤️Wouldn't mind going back again. The grills were good and the tables weren't falling apart. Very close to the beach so keeping an eye on the kiddos was very simple. Good work they do down at Buckhorn. The fact that people were out, keeping things clean and neat makes this one of the better northeren state parks I've visited. They even have a small playground ?
