“Winkie's has been part of the neighborhood forever, and for good reason. The upstairs has a great assortment of candy, cards, wrapping paper, gift bags, party supplies, novelties and Wisconsin themed items (including cheeseheads for those visiting from out of town). The downstairs has household items and a nice selection of toys and games for all ages. The staff is always friendly and willing to help or answer any questions. This is a real neighborhood gem, and I need to remember that more often!”

“This is my favorite place to shop for cards and little treats for myself or for a friend. I have been going to Winkies since 2021. I have to control myself so that I do not buy one of each of the items in the store. It's a great place that everyone should visit.”

“Freese's Malted Milk Balls: Freese's Candy Shoppe first opened in 1928 by founder Otto Freese. It's located in West Allis, which is just west of Milwaukee, WI. Almost 100 years later they're still going strong using family recipes passed down over three generations. My Uncle gave me these Malted Milk Balls (MMBs) for Christmas and basically told me that Freese's makes some high-quality sweets. Initially I was a little skeptical as I'm not the biggest fan of MMBs, but to be fair the only MMBs I've had were Whoppers. The thought of Freese's balls also made me smirk a bit as the name reminds me of a possible counterpart to that old SNL skit featuring Alec Baldwin's Schweddy balls. All joking aside, Freese's version is much larger (about the size of a large gumball) and has a greater outer chocolate to malt center ratio than a Whopper. This worked in my favor as I'm a bigger fan of the chocolate layer, which is kind of funny since it's the center that gives the balls their name. For those of you looking for a little history on the malted milk ball, it goes back to 1887 when William Horlick, immigrated to Racine, WI from England. He was a food manufacturer and created the first malted milk powder. That powder, along with white chocolate is rolled into a ball to create the center of a MMB before it is coated in milk chocolate. I thought this was an interesting connection to the Milwaukee area that I had not been aware of. In conclusion, even though I think Whoppers are just okay, Freese's MMBs won me over and are Doughboy approved. Doughboy_Food_Reviews”

“I was hosting a work party Needed Door prizes at the last minute, and we decided on chocolate. So I contacted them on the way to their store and asked if they were able to accommodate us and our order of approximately 85 truffles. They were lovely we got there and there were three ladies waiting to help us. They were very quick about it because we were in a hurry and were very helpful:-) the truffles were absolutely delicious and they were a hit at the party! Would definitely refer this shop to anybody that would ask, and will use them again in the future. Thank you so much ladies you did a great job :-)”

“This review is for the storefront, which is technically in Whitefish Bay, WI. We stopped by both their manufacturing facility and the storefront this past week when I was in town attending the Retail Confectioners International conference. The storefront is very cute. The proprietress gave us samples of their crunchy peanut butter truffles and also their chocolate-covered toffees, and I ended up purchasing a few things: some sea salt truffles from their $1 bin in the front; their s'mores, for $5; and two truffles, a tiramisu one and a mint meltaway. Everything was delicious. They also do a great presentation: you get one gift bag with tissue paper for what you buy, and I believe you can buy extra bags if needed, too. I gave my dad the s'mores today for Father's Day and we split it with my mom, and everyone liked it. Definitely stop by if you're in the area.”

“This place is chocolate heaven, my wife and I get a pound of dark chocolate creams on our monthly visits. Their other stuff looks great but we always get the same thing. Being in the Public Market, they don’t take themselves too seriously.”
