The museum is located in the basement of the Sheriff Department building. We could look inside and see some of the displays. Unfortunately, we could not go in because it was temporarily closed due to Covid-19

We stayed the night in Sundance, Wyoming, mainly because my wife is a big fan of the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The movie actually inspired her to read books of the actual history of these two historical figures, including the fact that Sundance got this name because he spent time in jail in Sundance, Wyoming. The evening we arrived, I got online to see if there was anything in town that I could take her by and found both a statue and a museum. I decided to take her to both the next morning, although I wasn't expecting much from the museum. Boy was I surprised! We spent about an hour and a half walking through the museum, including a very enjoyable talk with the curator, who was extremely knowledgeable. Displays included details of the Sundance Kid's trial, as well as life in the late 19th and early 20th century. The latter included displays of a typical home, doctor's office, store, beauty parlor, etc., which included items donated by families in the county. The museum was located in the basement of city hall, but is actually moving to a new building across the street, which will allow more and larger displays. The next time we are driving near the Wyoming-South Dakota border, we are definitely going to stop again.

We were on route from Spearfish to Devils Tower and stopped in Sundance because of the Sundance Kid. The current museum is under the police station but is moving to a larger building. The museum was crammed full of artifacts donated by local people. The courtroom furniture from the trial of the Sundance Kid is displayed, plus photographs of the area and wanted posters ie Sundance Kid of, areas set up as homesteads, shops etc. Staff friendly an informative. You spend hours there, unfortunately we did not have the time.

Stopped in one morning as our motel was just a block away. There is plenty of parking nearby as the museum is located on the lower floor of the Crook County Courthouse. In the future their plans are to move to a different location. There are a lot of old artifacts and displays depicting a time gone by. Somewhat about the Sundance Kid, it is more about the history of the county. Also inside is a small gun collection and a display of a Jackalope. Worth a stop if you're spending any time in Sundance.

The Crook County Museum is located in the basement of the courthouse and it is packed with local artifacts many of which have been contributed by local families. Rocky, the curator, was interesting and informative, and has an extensive knowledge of the items, the area and its history. We enjoyed this museum and the wide variety of displays.

Stopped in Sundance to break up our journey from Medora SD and after our visit to Devils Tower. This museum has so many interesting things to look at. The curator was really passionate about the collection. The best part was the Sundance Kid courtroom
