Target Launches 8 New Stores Across Six States This Summer
Target Corp. is opening eight new stores this summer, including the retailer's 320th location in California. The openings are part of Target's bold plan to add 20 new locations this year and build more than 300 stores over the next decade.
The summer growth shows Target's move to larger store formats. Three of the new locations are bigger than the chain's typical 125,000-square-foot size, with some stores reaching nearly 150,000 square feet. This expansion allows Target to provide additional services and broader product selections.
First up is the Queens Astoria location, which will open July 20. The 41,000-square-foot store includes floor-to-ceiling glass windows giving shoppers a direct view of New York City's Hell Gate Bridge from the third floor. It's Target's eighth store in Queens and 108th in New York state.

Most openings are planned for August 17, covering multiple states. California's Jurupa Valley location stands out as the biggest at more than 147,000 square feet, including one of Target's largest food sections in the Los Angeles market with 16,000 square feet devoted to produce, meat and dairy.
Connecticut gets two new locations in Guilford and Norwalk, marking Target's first stores in both communities. The Guilford store covers more than 78,000 square feet, while Norwalk's location is bigger than 117,000 square feet. Both include CVS Pharmacy and Starbucks Café partnerships.
Florida gets two new stores: Bradenton's Heritage Harbor location and Wildwood. The Bradenton store, covering more than 149,000 square feet, becomes Target's second location in the city. Wildwood's 136,000-square-foot store becomes Target's 134th location in Florida.
New Jersey's Flemington store, covering more than 74,000 square feet, represents the state's 53rd Target location. Pennsylvania's West Goshen store has already opened, bringing the state's total to 79 locations.
Most new stores provide drive-up service, order pickup, and same-day delivery through Target Circle 360. Many include Apple at Target sections, CVS Pharmacy, Starbucks Café, and Target Optical services.
These openings happen as Target pursues a strategic recovery after experiencing declining sales and consumer criticism. The retailer opened 23 stores last year and announced plans to reach more than $15 billion in sales growth by 2030, backed by a $4 billion to $5 billion investment in stores, supply chain and technology.
Target's growth reflects retail trends, with Walmart also announcing plans to build or convert over 150 locations within five years.
