Wayfair to Open Massive Store in Atlanta in 2026
Online furniture giant Wayfair is setting up shop in Atlanta with plans for a huge 150,000-square-foot store opening in 2026. The new location will take over the former Walmart space at The District at Howell Mill shopping center.
This marks Wayfair's second big store, following its first location that opened in Wilmette, Illinois, in May 2024.

"The excitement around our first store in Wilmette exceeded expectations – from packed shopping carts in-store, to bus tours from neighboring states," said Liza Lefkowski, VP of merchandising and stores at Wayfair. "It's been incredible to see the enthusiasm for Wayfair in person and we can't wait to bring that same energy to Atlanta."
The store will sell furniture, home decor, housewares, appliances, and home improvement items across all styles and price ranges. Many items will be available to take home the same day.
The Atlanta location is a smart move for Wayfair. It's near their shipping center in McDonough, Georgia, which means faster delivery for big items like sofas. The store sits along I-75 at Howell Mill Road, just minutes from Buckhead, Midtown, and downtown Atlanta.
"At the heart of our retail strategy is our commitment to providing customers with a seamless shopping experience, whether online or in-store," Lefkowski added.
The space at 1801 Howell Mill Road has been empty since 2022, when Walmart closed permanently after multiple fires at the location.
Wayfair is working to grow its physical stores in 2025. The company will also open its first brick-and-mortar location for its luxury brand Perigold this spring in Houston.
The Illinois store has already boosted Wayfair's business. The company reports that after opening the Wilmette location, sales from Illinois grew more than 15% faster than the U.S. overall through the end of 2024.
Based in Boston, Wayfair made $11.9 billion in sales for the year ending December 31, 2024. Its brands include Wayfair, AllModern, Perigold, Birch Lane, Joss & Main, and Wayfair Professional.
The property is owned by JLL Income Property Trust and Selig Enterprises, with the lease deal handled by Fraser Gough and Benton Green of Retail Planning Corporation.
