Monterey Market is a village-based business that supports local farmers and the community. It is a supermarket mainly intended for buying fresh vegetables and fruits, with an amazing abundance that is hard to describe. The market provides a great assortment, with virtually every variety including an organic or pesticide-free option. It sells tasty and healthy organic foods at great, cheap prices comparatively. The aisles are narrow and it can be a total madhouse, but it is a Berkeley staple and a great shopping experience. The mission is simple: to provide good fruits and vegetables in season.
This is my favorite grocery store on the planet. People talk a lot about Berkeley bowl, and for good reason, but Monterey market offers a superior quality of produce. The selection may not be quite as wide, but what they do sell is consistently about as fresh as humanely possible.
