“Wonderful wine shop with a HUGE selection of reasonably priced wines, as well as a few $$$. The proprietor and staff are knowledgeable and helpful. I ducked in to grab a bottle and asked for a French in the $30-50 range was was pleasantly surprised when they recommended a $32 bottle instead of a $48 bottle. Way to make a sale and get a fan for life! They also do tastings, at least on the Friday I was there. I can't wait to go back and explore their selection more.”

“The Berkeley City Club is a gorgeous building, designed by Julia Morgan in 1929. The building is also a listed historical place so there is tremendous history. It has a gothic feel with vaulted ceilings, Corinthian columns and lots of stones, stairs and stained glass windows. Picture a monastery converted to a hotel. The meeting/event rooms are beautiful with fireplaces. I booked a double/queen room which is on the small side, no AC, nice sizeable bathroom with lovely tiles. I had breakfast and lunch in Julia, the breakfast is included and continental. Lunch in Julia offered a French California inspired menu. Quite good. It was busy during lunch as the BCC is opened to members and has ongoing events, etc.. The dining room staff were great, super helpful and nice.
What was not so good: The rooms are a bit small, no work desk available. The room does not have AC so summertime can be unbearable. The wi fi is really bad. There is no water offered, no kettle or mini fridge either. For first time visits, the front door is a bit confusing as you have to push a button and speak to someone to get in.”
“Sarah and Amber are the absolute best! Seeing and talking to them completely brightens my day. They are always so kind, polite, and super helpful, and they also go out of their way to make sure that everyone feels welcome and taken care of.”

“Exactly what I needed. Great location for my activities in the Berkeley/Oakland/Richmond area. Clean, quiet, updated room; clean bathroom; mini frig. New or updated hotel. Hot breakfast included with great variety. Good price. Accommodated a very early check in. Everything you expect at a Holiday Inn but hard to find elsewhere.”
“The David Brower Center is an awesome venue! We hosted about 120 people for a celebration and used the Tamalpais Rooma nd Terrace on a Sunday morning. The spaces are flexible and Tim was a fabulously supportive point of contact as we thought about layout and had many other questions leading up to the event.
Additionally, when we arrived on the day of our event, April made sure to check about the seating arrangements, helped us with a cart to get things up to the rooms, helped with a bandaid when somebody fell and just maintained such kindness and support. Ben was equally present and creative as we got ready for the event, which included streaming the event and having guests join by Zoom.
Highly recommend the team and spaces at the David Brower Center!”
“I visited Urban Adamah for a weekend retreat and had a very positive experience! Considering I was staying on a farm, I was not expecting the accommodations to be so nice, that's for sure. The rooms had bunk beds, but they were study and relatively comfortable, with outlets by every bed. The bathrooms were very modern and clean, as well. I really enjoyed exploring the property and playing with the goats! It felt very safe staying here, as they locked the front gate most of the time, especially overnight. The staff here were also great and dedicated to the success of the farm. Shoutout to Jesse for cooking up some delicious food all weekend! I will definitely leave Urban Adamah feeling refreshed and rejuvenated! Highly recommend coming to the farm to learn more.”
“Truly excellent service from start to finish. We got married on the de Young Museum terrace (which was beautiful but extraordinarily complicated given the nature of the venue—members of their staff were so kind and flexible but many others were borderline hostile; I can't recommend it). Grace Street was the core of our wedding as they handled catering, rentals, and setup for both the reception and ceremony.
Cynthia helped us understand the rental and catering proposal and process upfront. We had no idea what we were doing as we didn't have a planner until early much later in the process. She was never bothered by our questions.
Will made himself fully available as we finalized our rental order. He was not only responsive but full of ideas about how to execute the event well. He acted like a partner in our planning, which we desperately needed given his experience at our unique venue.
The team set the space up in record time (as required by the venue) without sacrificing quality.
The food was INCREDIBLE—even better than we remembered from the tasting. We have received rave reviews about both appetizers and entrees from our family and friends (tough critics).
I would so happily work with them again.”
“Absolutely blown away by the exceptional craftsmanship showcased this year! The artistry and attention to detail in the crafts surpassed anything I've seen in previous years. Each piece seemed to radiate an unparalleled level of skill and creativity, truly setting a new standard for excellence. The dedication and innovation displayed by the artists this year were truly inspiring. Can't wait to see what incredible creations they'll unveil next!”
“I recently stayed at The Claremont Hotel, and while the property itself is stunning, the standout highlight of my visit was undoubtedly Effie at the front desk.
From the moment I walked through the doors, Effie greeted me with a level of warmth and professionalism that is rare to find. She didn't just check me in; she made me feel truly welcome. She has an incredible ability to balance efficiency with a genuine, personal touch—navigating my questions with ease and offering local recommendations that turned out to be the highlights of my trip.
What impressed me most was her attention to detail. She anticipated my needs before I even had to ask, ensuring every aspect of my stay was seamless. It’s clear that Effie takes immense pride in her work and cares deeply about the guest experience.
If you’re visiting The Claremont, you’re in excellent hands with Effie. She is a true asset to the hotel and a masterclass in hospitality!”
“I took two teenage girls to this super casual spot on a Sunday afternoon. First time we've thrown axes, and we loved it! There are 5 lanes in the back, with tables and stools, and paper on clipboards if you want to keep score, They provided a tutorial/safety talk at the beginning, and then the freedom to learn by playing. We had two lanes to ourselves, which allowed us to experiment and throw a lot of axes. The other patrons came in couples, and each couple had their own lane.
By the end, we weren't great, but we had a great time. It was a fun and healthy way to get out some energy, practice focus, and just laugh together.”
