“I needed some weird tamper proof allen screw tool. Bill showed me exactly what I needed and I was out of there in 5 minutes. Big box hardware stores need to learn a lesson.”

“We loved this lumber yard. Picked out TREX for our deck. Good Selection. Had samples for us to take home to get the perfect color. Everyone asked if we needed help, we went to talk to Janet. Ordered what we needed, she checked availability and delivery time. She was super busy but really knowledgeable and we got what we needed, delivered when we wanted we didn't feel rushed, really fantastic service.”

“Best hardware store ever!I went in for a part for Grohe kitchen faucet, even though they don't have it, they called the owner to help me find the part.My neighbor told me if I can't find the part, I have to buy a brand new set which is very expensive. Papenhausen not only answer me so many questions about kitchen faucet brands also reassure my confidence for Grohe. Not just that, Papenhausen Google and found the part for me.I offer to buy a Grohe new set from Papenhausen as a thank you gesture for the guiding light, but Papenhausen want to save me money and let me order the part on line myself. It's not just that, each staff is like the most kind human being love to find out answers and helping people, I truly love this store. For me, it's better than ordering from Amazon or go directly to Home Depot. & If they can't find something I need, they always point out direction.I stopped going to Target or Amazon for ward wares because even seeing these nice people in Papenhausen, make me feel San Fran is still wonderful.”

“What a wonderful hardware and variety store - a fantastic contemporary (modern) version of the classic general goods store (that smaller towns find essential) rarely found in larger urban settings. Outstanding selection of quality goods at fair prices, with knowledgeable and friendly service - located in one of San Francisco's uniquely vibrant neighborhoods.”

“The staff here is really nice but they are often out of stock on a lot of stuff. Especially plumbing. I often have trouble finding parts I need for plumbing. The other paganos has a much larger stock”

“Fastener (including marine grade 316 stainless) paradise, a true hardware store. Electrical section better than the plumbing or HVAC section but still a recommended first stop before hitting the sad big box stores, especially if you need a tool.”

“Dude... I love Cole Hardware lol. Coming to this store is like going treasure hunting. Sometimes I'll wander in with no agenda and no plans - and then find something useful, exciting, or random to buy. Recently I got a "stubby hammer" - a mini adorable hammer. I also come here for gardening supplies. They have lots of soils in the back. The best part of cole hardware is the staff. They're knowledgeable and friendly. And not pushy! The staff doesn't hard sell you. One gentleman helped me find tools for de-weeding my garden. He suggested the cheaper option, because he said it did a great job. I've also gotten great tips for gardening. Don't let my photos dissuade you - go check it out!”

“I love this place because of the personal assistance. Also it reminds me of the hardware store, where I worked during high school in my family hardware store: Platteville, Wisconsin. The garden center in the back is a real bonus!”

“Cute store and neighborhood. CJ was friendly and helpful. He shared a cool photo showing they’ve been in that same spot since 1909! Also, the owner founded the local Glen Park Merchants Association. Reasonable prices and a great local business to support.”

“This is an excellent network and no matter which of their stores I have been to so far, I have almost always found the goods I need and competent, friendly salespeople who have unobtrusively been nearby whenever I have had difficulty finding the goods I need. That is, quite often :) This is a truly excellent level of service. Thank you guys”

“If you need your car key copied; GO HERE! There was this old man at the cashier coping the keys for my '08 Yaris, he didn't cut the key well, because it couldn't open the doors, and would only turn on the ignition. When a younger gentleman walked in, he got another key and started coping the original key to the new one. He did it relative fast. When he was done, I went outside and tested it, and it worked! Just like an original key. I just paid about $5.40. That's a steal!”

“Good for quick stop for household needs. They have everything that a hardware store should carry. I stopped by to buy some sand paper to refurbish a lovely wooden table. Finding the right one was bit of a hassle but the store attendants were helpful enough.”

“Great little hardware store. Especially when you don't want to walk in circles at the big hardware stores. They have a large inventory of necessary materials.”

“The store is stocked on shelves as high as the ceilings with vital products in major brands stocked. Not all variations of each product can be found. The highlight of the store is the owner who knows what he and will help you find it in the store.Parking turns over frequently especially at the end of the day when people from the nearby businesses are headed home.”

“Reliable and helpful staff is the key to this Ace location. Been there many times, and the staff is always helpful and very knowledgeable. They deliver and assemble a grill for you (and take the old one away!), which is such a great service that no one else provides anymore. They also make copies of keys, and have propane tanks.”

“I went to get a battery on Sunday 7/23 and the store should have been open. The main door had a big piece of plywood over it and the place was locked up.I hope everything is okay. The owner wrote and said everything is okay ... I'm really happy because I've always been able to count on them for everything I need and I look forward to going back in the future.”

“Everyone is super nice and knowledgeable here, and the prices are so reasonable! I'm super shy but everyone here put me at ease. I was looking to create a fish tank cover with cutouts for my filter etc and Junior turned out also to be an aquarium enthusiast! I didn't come in with questions, but he educated me on the thickness of the acrylic meant to go under LED lights and heated water, whether or not it'll bow over time, how much light will pass through to my plants, and so on! He's so nice and patient, and made sure that my cover was the perfect dimensions. The cutouts are an additional $5 for each in addition to the price of the rectangular acrylic and the entire custom piece came out much cheaper than the pet shop.In addition, Edgar and one other person (sorry, I forgot his name!) helped answer questions about other pieces in the store and their customization. The plastic containers = food safe, great for use as travel bottles, and basically wholesale price--how could you beat that?”

“Rick and his team replaced about 15 double hung and casement windows in our 1935 San Francisco home, and did a terrific job. They were careful and thorough in their preparation and their clean up, and the windows and hardware are great quality and work well. We are very pleased, and felt very comfortable with them during their work in our home. They were recommended by our neighbors, who had Rick replace a number of their old windows several year previously.”

“After wasting time trying to get help from anyone useful at Lowe's (30 minutes on hold then they hung up when transferring me, and another 45 minutes driving over there ....to be told they can't get me what I want shipped from another store) I ended up here. They are cheerful, and helpful.Pros: You can pretty much get what you need here, and yes they will deliver if you order enough. They have a parking lot and wont yell at you for cutting sheetrock in their lot so it'll fit in your car...they'll even give you a utility knife and a T-square.They cut glass and wood. They don't run away when they see you. They will offer actual helpful advice when asked and if they don't know they won't try to snow you. They are a family business and not associated with any of the Evil Empire stores. They have sales which helps a little depending on what you need ( you can look up their sales online.)If you have Covid induced low frustration tolerance, this is your place. Easy to park, find what you need and check out.Cons:They cost more then any of the Evil Empire stores. But cheap friends, time is money and sometimes you just gotta pay more to support the Forces for Good ( and your mental health.)”

“Walking through the Financial District these days is a pretty lonely experience. Fortunately there's an island of friendly helpful people and they work at Financial District Hardware. I suppose as much for security reasons as anything, staff are standing at the door to open it, greet you, and direct you to the exact isle where sought after items can be found. Of course if they don't have your item, they'll tell you that too so you don't 'waste anytime, but that's rarely been the case. The store is convenient to my home and all 14 people working in the Financial District, and I'm able to get in and out quickly, making my shopping experience a breeze. The only negative I can think of is that the prices are a bit more expensive than the box stores but the helpful service and convenience more than make up for the prices. Oh, and if you are thinking of driving there - don't.Overall, Financial District Hardware offers exceptional customer service and a great selection of products. While it may be a bit more expensive, the convenience and fantastic service more than make up for the prices. I would highly recommend this store to anyone in the area.”

“I feel so lucky to have this hardware store in my neighborhood. They invariably have everything that I'm looking for and the staff is knowledgeable and efficient. I always know that when I leave the shop, I'll be satisfied. J & J Hardware Store rocks!”

“Highly recommend this company and their employees. They genuinely care and are very reputable. Just had my gate lock repaired by them. The gentleman suggested to repair because we had a high quality lock mechanism (which we had purchased from them many years ago). A new replacement would have cost over $300 for the mechanism plus the labor to install. I paid $160 for the repair. Money well spent. He could have just told me to replace it. He was a true artisan...a true locksmith. Sat in his truck and worked on it for quite some time and went back and forth to make sure it was perfect. Now it smoothly opens and closes. Have used them for years and will continue to be loyal to them.”

“We were parked a few blocks away on Haight, and someone smashed our car window (right before we had to drive to the airport). I ran into Roberts, looking for gloves, duct tape, and a bag to temporarily tape over the window. The folks here were super helpful, and sympathetic to the situation - I was really grateful/appreciative for their help in a tight spot!”

“A great store with great service. Despite it not being as big as the typical chain stores, they always have what I am looking for. Beyond that, they are always incredibly helpful and kind. As an amateur at home repairs, I especially appreciate that they always give excellent, honest advice. For these reasons, I'd absolutely suggest trying it first before going elsewhere.”
