“I've gotten my English Ivy and Boston Fern from here :)) they're so beautiful and lovely addition to my home. Business owner is super chill and so fun to talk to about care and keeping of the plant children :))”
“It’s such a vibe …perfect place for a mother to listen for my next plant babies to whisper to me?. Also everyone is very knowledgeable and attentive. The plants are priced reasonably and are quality plants”
“Beautiful nursery with an abundant selection of curated plants, ceramics, and bonsai trees! Walking in to Katsura, you're greeted with a wave of fresh air, so many vibrant plant babies to choose from. They also have a lovely selection of Japanese style pots and vases, some of them are so unique in form and design. I thoroughly enjoyed browsing the store, the bonsai trees and huge monsteras really caught my eye. Overall I'd say this spot is a bit more expensive than Home Depot or other nurseries, but definitely worth a visit if you're looking for something special.”
“I've come to this store multiple times and I always had a great experience. It's even better if you need help finding the right tools or materials for a project because you'll always find someone ready to help.”
“If you love plants, this is a great place to visit. If feels much more like a botanical garden then a retail nursery. There are so many unusual plants here. From anywhere you stand in the greenhouses, there were dozens of different kinds of plants within a few feet.”
“I am a native San Franciscan who buy fresh plants for funerals instead of flowers here because the price is right & they are healthy beautiful selection. My big sister Jessie Lee always want to open a flower shop so since I was little this has been our go to spot in the city…excited about the new Flower Market on 90116th Street…”
“I’ve been ordering from Blossoms for almost 30 years and wouldn’t think of ordering anywhere else. The floral quality and excellent level of Customer Service (seriously they have the nicest staff ever!) will keep me as a customer for life. The arrangements are beautiful works of art and long-lasting (two weeks!) I wish this sweet little business many, many more years of success!”

“Love the place,I usually go to the nursery elsewhere, but after working in the field, they got lots of variety to choose from, have 1 cu ft bags of all soils types”
“I’ve spent a small fortune over the years on plants from this nursery. They have all the common houseplants to the rarer collectibles and everything in between. Prices for most plants are competitive but the rarer ones are very pricey as to be expected. Friendly staff, big variety of plants, highly recommend.”
“Paxton Gate is such an incredible and curious shop. I have so many items in my elementary classroom that I use to help teach kids about certain aspects of zoology, dinosaurs, and the natural world. They offer incredibly unique items that any curious patron, be they adult or guest, would love and be fascinated by. I tell everyone I know about this company and browse their site often looking for new and exciting things. They take so much care in their packaging that everything I have received arrive in perfect condition.”
“10/4/2024: I'd been looking forward to visiting Succulence for months, ever since my plant collection exploded with a particular fondness for succulents. I happened to be in the Bernal Heights neighborhood, so decided to finally check them out. Unfortunately, when I arrived I discovered a karate school at the address listed for Succulence. A lady inside told me they had been closed since sometime in June.
The owners have responded to other comments, stating that despite the closure of their brick and mortar store you can still contact them regarding workshops and other events. Closing a business is incredibly difficult, and I'm glad to hear they're still up and running (even if it's at a reduced capacity). To those leaving negative reviews because they arrived to find the store closed: stop. For you it's a minor inconvenience, but for the owners it's so much more. That said, it would be helpful if they added a banner on the website's homepage letting customers know the physical store closed. I wish them the best with their future ventures, and hope I get the opportunity to visit another Succulence location someday.”
“This is a destination garden center! You’ll find fun plants including palms and houseplants not to mention orchids and cactus all ready for adoption! Containers and seating are here for inspiration and there’s no better place for ideas to form!”
“Absolutely adore this shop! Fantastic service, beautiful, healthy plants. Purchased soil and it is so dark and smells like earth should!I especially love that pet friendly plants are marked (with adorable paw prints) as both my cat and dog like to graze if they somehow manage to get up to the plants.”
“What a great find. Came to check out California native plant's next door and “discovered “ this beautiful, well kept nursery. They have a nice, vibrant, well kept selection of native plants , sun and shade loving variety, lots of other indoor and outdoor plants. I appreciate the fact the staff was friendly, helpful and informative( this is a great plus given the few grumpy nursery owners I have encountered recently if you ask more then one question).Another big plus is their prices which are sure reasonable, allowing me to choose a nice diversity of pollinating plants that serve local bird and insect population, some medicinal plants as well”
“Great fixture in the San Mateo area. Nursery has a pedigree going back three generations. Okay, maybe two, maybe I can't count.
All the flowers you need and Plants you need and vegetables you need and trees you need and shears you need and shovels you need and bark you need.
Yummy nom noms.
Best yet are the second or third generation owners of the place who really know what they're talking about.
Maybe not the best prices, but you don't go there for the best prices, you go because they know what they're talking about.
Bonus points dare: think of four different kinds of plants. Every 5 minutes, pick one in your head, go up and tell them you are having trouble with your plants looking weak. Ask what kind of fertilizer you should use.
I dare you.”
“I came in out of curiosity and was amazed by all the diversity of beautiful plants. Now it is one of my favorite places, although sometimes I just go to relax, everyone is very friendly and every time I go I am surprised because there is something new.”
“My wife and I were married at the San Mateo Arboretum in June of 2019, it just occurred to me I should post a review! We were very happy with the venue, we had the wedding out in the garden with about 52 people. We used the Pump House to stage things, and had the buffet tables outside. We were able to bring in a catering truck with a pizza oven, and the caterer provided the servers to stage the food and serve the drinks. Our contact helped us with the logistics and was there for the event, when there was an issue with another event in the park blocking the access she quickly worked it out with them and got the path cleared. There are some limitations to work with: no real kitchen for cooking, no dishwashing, and the interior would be cramped for 45 people, so hope for clear weather and bring a mobile caterer. Don't expect to play really loud music or have a big dance party on the grass. But for a small low-key wedding the garden is fantastic, and makes a wonderful backdrop. The price is very affordable, and we were able to book it with 4 months notice, so it was a very good option for us... Highly recommended if it fits your needs!”
“Great place to pick up Benjamin Moore paints. I order online and pick it up to avoid wait times (which aren’t that long but I always end up leaving with things I didn’t intend on buying ?). Great customer service and they do occasional sales! Grateful this is my neighborhood hardware store.”

“Bay Natives is truly unique. An arty nursery where you can see alot of beautiful, native plants grown in a "funky as the old San Francisco" setting. There's places to sit, bring a thermos or a picnic and relax. You can bike there, take a Heron's Head hike, sit at the skate park by the creek on Illinois, visit Building Resources, hear live music at the New Farm which borders City Grazing. Goats, chickens, live music, two gorgeous nurseries, eggs for sale it's a chance to get off your screen and walk around a truly unique area of San Francisco. Worth every second and every dollar thank you!”
“I live in the neighborhood and love this store! Recently, I had an issue with my scooter. It was missing a vital part for carrying it. Gabe willingly helped me with the issue and came up with a quick and easy solution: a carabiner. Thank you so much, Gabe!”
“I’m so happy this store is in the neighborhood! The owner was super nice and helpful each time I’ve gone in. And her husband help bring one of the plants I got to my car! And she does stick super cute pots and propagation hangers!”
“This is a great place that I often go to for plant gifts. I would rate it 5 stars except that sometimes they are closed for lunch when I go which does not show up in Google hours so I’ve had to wait for them to get back from lunch.”
“Great customer service - I’d been eying an item for a while and when i finally went to buy it, it was out of stock. They took my name down and called me when it came back in.They have a great selection of books, gardening tools & kitchen items.”
“Great place to exchange co2 tanks for beer brewing. As of the time of this writing (Oct 2023), it costs $25 to exchange a 20 lb tank instead of some ridiculous prices at other places. The people have always been very nice and friendly. Thank you and keep up the good work!”
“We purchased a beautiful water fountain from Giannini back in 2014 and had an excellent experience with the whole process. Recently, our fountain started having issues and I contacted Giannini. Alex came through for us and found a time slot in their busy delivery schedule to make a service call (we live 2 ½ hours away). Johnny and his crew not only fixed the issue (a disconnected tube inside the fountain) but they took the fountain apart, replaced old components and even scrubbed off all the algae and calcium build-up. Our fountain is working perfectly again and looks almost brand new! Thank you so much Alex and crew!”
“Incredible shop! Wonderful selections that look healthy, fair prices and extremely helpful staff. We visited today for re-potting & finding appropriate potting soil. Their tips/guidance was so helpful without being condescending. Excited to visit again!”
