“TLDR: Apple Hill Randoms are bottom tier, only play if you have a foursome. Not worth it unless you have 4.

I am going to start this review with the caveat that I am not good at golf but I play fast, and know golf etiquette. I have been playing for about 3 years so its not my first rodeo. My experience today with Steve from apple hill was a solid 1/10.

The course itself is 9/10 or 10/10. Absolutely beautiful and challenging but enjoyable. Would recommend, it is difficult though so be prepared to drop and hit, and lose a few balls.

The random (Steve) I got paired with today had to of been on something, or has something in my opinion. I don’t know why he was treating me like it was my first ever time on a course. I was playing with my friend, who has been playing for 3 years, and his girlfriend whose it was the first time on a course.
To start things off he started by giving everyone unsolicited advice, and ignoring what we were telling him. After our first terrible shots, he was rushing us to play best ball when my friend told him he was already playing a 2-person scramble. No idea why he refused to accept that. After the second shot he was adamant/persistent that we play from the reds. We gave in because we had no idea what was going on to be honest, I have never had a random be this bossy for something that does not concern him. By the third hole we were waiting on the group in front of us and he insisted on playing through. This is where it gets unhinged. He took MY cart down to talk to the group in front of us, I didn’t notice since I was talking to my group. When I did notice I will admit I thought this guy was out of his gourd. Like who does that? Once he decided we were skipping this hole, and we moved ahead of the group in front of us, we played from the red tees and decided to play a 3-person scramble to keep the peace and hopefully salvage this round.
We did not play well as we were pretty upset at what this crazy guy was putting us through. We played through the rest of the round, only because we were already there and tried to salvage as best as we could. Then on one hole a par 3 were he hit my friends ball instead of his own ? Yeah lesson learned. We also had to apologize to my friend's girlfriend as this is not the normal golf experience. At the end we still don’t know why he was in such a rush to finish , but lesson was learned.

I know Steve is not a reflection of the golf course itself, but he can potentially be part of the experience , so I would recommend you have a foursome or if you only have 3 it will be worth it to pay for the fourth spot.”

“Oh my goodness, I just love Fausel Ranch! As a photographer, it’s a dream location — there’s so much variety with all the beautiful backdrops, you can create so many different looks all in one spot. And Deanne, the owner, is absolutely wonderful — she always goes above and beyond to make sure everything is perfect. Highly recommend!”

“I had my wedding at the Davies Family Inn at Shadow Ridge Ranch and it was absolutely amazing! The place itself is gorgeous without any decoration. Linda was so great and easy to reach if we had any questions or concerns, and was very hands on during the reception. She was extremely helpful. The bartender Beka was so sweet and did an amazing job. Everyone absolutely loved her! The cabins were very clean and so cozy. Having everything all in one place for the wedding was so much less stress and Shadow Ridge Ranch was the best place to do it. I can’t thank them enough for making our day so beautiful, special and fun. The reception was a BLAST and we danced the night away. The way that the property is set up was perfect! It is a weekend that my husband and I will remember forever. Thank you all again SO much!!”

“We had our daughter wedding here last Wednesday Oct 2024.
I was highly disappointed as we walked on wet grass and sat on muddy chairs, my dress along with several others had mud on them, the next complaint I have is the food we paid for the Buffett and had to ask numerous times for to go plates I am shocked we were able to take our deserts home but nothing else. I’m wanting partial payment back for the food because there was a lot left over and I read that large venues like this is suppose to provide the to go plates. Well everytime someone asked for one it was an inconvenience, we paid for wine that was never was used but couldn’t take that home as well because no cap. So I don’t get it it’s ok to take our deserts home but the food no ? They rather you give away the food instead of it being thrown away is what I read on the California food law.
I didn’t pay for everyone else to eat off my dime. So if someone from this venue wants to reach out to me they can.
Other then those complaints the venue was nice but very expensive if your planning on having a wedding here.”

“I attended the Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy performance at the Placerville Shakespeare Club on Friday, June 6, 2025. I thought the venue was the perfect spot for it. It was a wonderful old building and the performance was amazing and entertaining. I would definitely attend an event again at this venue.”
