“This is one of the larger Ace hardwares . Hassett stores also seem to carry more of a selection of products. They had everything I was looking for and you can actually find help from employees that know their store. So much better than that orange box place. If they had cheaper prices and carried lumber they would put all other hardware stores out of business.”
“If you have no other reason to go- this *feels* like a hardware store. I know when I say this I am speaking to a very specific subset of people. However, when I was a kid, my dad would take me with him to the hardware store, and I would get a lollypop while he and whomever from behind the counter would wander around looking for an eyebolt or the right shade of caulk. Giulio- who I assume is the owner, is easily 10 years older than my mom, who lives in the assisted living up the street. My mom can't be bothered to go to the chair yoga we're paying for, but Giulio went to work. He's not totally mobile, but he knows his s#!t. Whenever I come in, he or whoever else is behind the counter is happy to chat through my issue and suggest something. It's not a Home Depot- so they may not have what you're looking for every time- but they have a lot of things, and it makes me happy to know my money is staying local. Also, side story: One day during the summer, it's like 90, and I am behind a contractor who's getting a bunch of stuff - lumber, rocks...I don't know- but he's paying for it, and he grabs some water bottles for him and his crew and puts them on the counter. Giulio totals him up and says a number; the guy says, "Oh, don't forget these waters". Giulio says, "The town where I come from in Italy has the best water in the world, and it flows right off the mountain. If my father knew I was charging people for water, he'd come back from the dead and strike me down. Those are free." C'mon. How can you not go here first?”
“Very helpful and very nice people that knows tools. Can go wrong with anything in the store. Also they have one part of the store that sell anime action figures.”
“Our experience with Airgas in SSF was an awesome experience Thanks to Jorge Gutierrez which he took his time to explain with all details everything we asked for ,we came to the shop with all the supplies he advised us to get .Jorge is someone that will take his time to explain with details we will go back to this place for sure.

“Great resource for hardware quick and with actual service, well worth the slight premium (if any) over the Big Box monstrosities if you need things quickly and done right.
Recently they cut a key for a friend who has a late model Chevy with the extractable keys. Stealerships charge hundreds to program these and cut the key. eBay has sellers with aftermarket FOBS for $35/pair. Fairly easy to program yourself, and here at this ACE they have the correct machine to cut the key correctly. $25 per customer supplied blank and key works perfectly!
Whenever I visit small businesses like this that are managed, stocked and trained well, I want to vomit at how much more stress and time it takes to buy the same items at hell holes like Home Despot or Lowes.”
“About the same prices as a big box, but with unparalleled customer service. Large plumbing and electrical department, but also expansive paint and nuts/bolts. Perfectly cut keys are $3! A true community acet!”
“Designed mostly for contractors. Staff definitely knows their stuff, and can help homeowners as much, as they can! They are more stocked now that they were before. If your expecting homedepo type location this is not for you! Definitely a good place for contractors!”
“I went in with a request for a strange screw for my car door, and they spent a lot of time with me individually... only to realize I didn't need it at all. All this for a $.47 piece of hardware. They really went above and beyond.”
“Great place to make keys etc in the neighborhood. Very helpful and friendly owner always there to lend a hand. Reasonable priced items, convenient and full of helpful items without going to Loews. I will continue to shop here”
“Best customer service, helped me find what I needed to avoid having to buy a whole new replacement. Couldn’t recommend more. Plus layout is very nice and clean. Thank you!!!”
“I was looking for a HVAC Supply House for a large project I'm working on. Mainly nonmachanical, but still needed some HVAC supplies, for my Sub. This supply house has been a Blessing! Luckily I started working with Chad from the beginning, down to earth guy who is super helpful! The whole crew is helping, but Chad's the man! I'm glad I found them, and wish them great success”
“I may be prejudicial here as I have worked for the company for the last 23 years, but I would not have applied if I was not impressed with the quality of customer service and tools that they provided. It is a candy store for any tradesperson or DIYer”
“South City Lumber is our go to for all construction projects. Excellent customer service, go see Erika or Justin for assistance. We recently ordered Emtek cabinet hardware from Erika and she was patient enough and gave great recommendations. We have gotten so many compliments for our cabinet hardware.”
“The owner, Albert, helped me find everything I needed. He was very knowledgeable. Everything was reasonably priced, and they had a great selection of goods. I will definitely be coming back.”
“It's O.K. I was on hold for 15 minutes then got transferred to voicemail and had to call back. But they did get a last minute Friday order ready for pick up in under 40 minutes for me. Online payment was easy and nice, I was able to send it straight to my customer and have them pay. The yard hand that helped me load was fantastic and funny. In and out in record time.”

“I said going to grand Avenue hardware about 10 years ago. It seems, but it was really only 8 anyways. The owner is a great guy. His help is the best I've ever dealt with. They're always willing to help me out with question about hardware.”
“I can’t say enough amazing things about Designers Brass and especially Arlene, the owner. From the very beginning, Arlene made us feel like family — we kept saying over and over that she felt like a cousin we’ve known forever. Her warmth, kindness, and unmatched patience made what could have been a stressful process feel easy, comfortable, and even fun.
We worked with Arlene over multiple days, and she never once made us feel rushed. Instead, she encouraged questions, explained everything clearly, and took the time to go above and beyond — even doing research and work she didn’t have to, not just for us but for others too. She sat through long meetings with us, helped us explore every possible option, and was incredibly honest and transparent every step of the way.
One thing I absolutely have to mention is how insanely fast everything shipped! Arlene got things done practically overnight — it blew our minds how efficient and on top of everything she was. She truly made the entire process seamless from start to finish.
The quality of their products is top-notch, and the care and heart behind this family-owned, woman-owned business is truly rare. I’ve lived in Millbrae for over 30 years, and I’m honestly sad I just now got to meet Arlene — but I’m so grateful I finally did.
Once everything we purchased is installed, I’ll be sure to post pictures of the final result — I can’t wait to show off how beautiful it all turns out.
If you’re looking for exceptional service, high-quality craftsmanship, and a place that truly makes you feel at home, I highly recommend Designers Brass.
Thank you, Arlene, for everything you did for me and my family. We appreciate you more than words can express!!!”

“The most helpful and well stocked woodworking store I’ve ever been to. So incredibly helpful. Will only be shopping here from now on. Stains, dyes, tools, accessories, exotic wood, drills, saws, and fun things! Manager and owner were there and you can tell they love what they do!”
“Great local hardware shop with friendly and helpful staff. They have nearly anything you'd need from a hardware store so you can support these locally run shops instead of Home Depot or Lowe's.
I recently bought some light chain to make a clothes line with in the garage and it worked like a charm (use hangers instead of clothes pins).”
“This store is a gem! Run by a friendly husband & wife, this is an amazing place to get quality machinist tools, tooling, and INFO. Ask them; they're happy to share their knowledge.”
“Great selection of American and European quality tools. Found some unique items and will return for other stuff I wanna get. I asked for help and asked a few questions. The guys at the store were helpful and kind.”
“Visited the Daly City location this Saturday and the two team members were super helpful. It’s good to know that Home Depot and Lowe’s hasn’t destroyed these small companies that still have knowledgeable team members.”
“I went to get a battery on Sunday 7/23 and the store should have been open. The main door had a big piece of plywood over it and the place was locked up.I hope everything is okay. The owner wrote and said everything is okay ... I'm really happy because I've always been able to count on them for everything I need and I look forward to going back in the future.”
“After not finding basic items on several occasions, I tried one last time and found a similar product to the one I wanted. But, to my surprise, there was a very recent change in ownership, which, I hope, will mean better and more merchandise on the shelves again soon. I will continue to try to support my local hardware store.”
“Great place to shop. The yard personal are super helpful and give you plenty of time to pick out the material that best fits you needs. No climbing up or into racks to sort through the lumber.
Always make you feel welcome.”
“Friendliest paint store on the Peninsula!! Been coming here for years! In addition to providing beautiful, quality paint, they also help you recycle old paint too!!!”

“I had a plumbing emergency on Friday with my daughter and family staying for the weekend. I was lucky to get a plumber in a few hours to stop a leaking shower valve for the hot water faucet. It was installed in 1991. BUT to repair/replace the two faucets with a single unit will be $2200. So I went to Cal-Steam Burlingame with the necessary info. It turns out I only need to change out the valve stem for $50. But what is so impressive is that John and Nick went above and beyond to help me. They spent time on the computer locating the part, double checked, conferred and then showed me the part. During the whole process they would apologize for taking so much time. I was so thankful that I could go to a plumbing supply warehouse and stand in line with working plumbers and be treated so respectfully. Senior citizens take note of this! I just turned 80. John and Nick you are great! Thanks for making it easy.”
“Great store, spacious and clean. But their bathrooms are SO dirty. The sinks and even the door to the men’s room are so grimy I didn’t want to touch anything. It’s always like this.”
